I personally like to see simple/common ones (cops, debris, and deer), and I like to see them passed on.

Agreed.
If there's members of the group a decent distance ahead (like there would be with proper following distances) they will ultimately see things first. Though sure people shouldn't rely on these signals, they definitely help.
I see it as a simple courtesy that helps the rest of the group behind.

I agree with this but I think that you don't need to point out every piece of debris that is on the road. I think you can pretty much tell where you are to the debris to know if you blocking the view of the others behind you. The more in the group the more I think this should be done. Sometimes when I see others do this it looks like they are over shooting the corner and they put there foot down. Others behind may be going faster than you because they are in a catch up mode so the more to point this out. I have been on many a group ride where riders from behind have latter said to me how glad they were that I pointed something out.

I don't point out stuff on the road much as most of it is very obvious but if I am leading a group through some twisties and run through or into a bunch of sand I will slow down so the others can see me and know that it is sandy.
