I notice that most of the bike descriptions follow that pattern in those reports. My guess is that model, cc and whether it's a sportbike or cruiser is not important for an accident report. Or maybe it's listed in a more formal report. I imagine that some of the more violent crashes might be impossible to figure out the model.

Look at the title for any of your street bikes. It'll say "RS" for "Road Street". Sometimes it gets abbreviated in the accident report to something like "RDSTRT" or something that looks like it might be short for "roadster."
Check out the abbreviations for the make on your title. Yama and Hond make perfect sense -- the first four letters. Suzuki should be Suzu by that rule, but Suzi's good. Still, I wonder whose idea it was to use "Kawk" for Kawi. "Hey Baby, wanna go for a ride on my... Yama?"

A state patrol officer I knew told me that the accident report forms they fill out was mostly check boxes with space to write out things that didn't have a box. Usually they just checked the box that was closest to that particular situation to save on writing. The reports are later entered into their database. I suspect that they have a lot of predefined fields in the database. The reports that Paul posts look like the output of a database query.
One thing that the officer told me was that there was one box missing from the report form that he thought he would be able to use in about 80% of the accident reports; HUA (Head Up Ass).
Please let the snow melt soon!

No skills and no brains, walk or get a ride from someone who has those.
lol, hate to laugh at a bad subject but it hit me light.
the rest was well said, although a tic rough around the edges, the message was clear to understand.
JVS and Tony (and others), sorry for the loss.

It was on the TV news. Looked like a black R1 got hit by a squad car responding to a shootout in my neighborhood. That's life in Minneapolis
My heart goes out to the friends and family of the fatality. I hope the passenger fully recovers.

Feel free to post up your own if you think it's relevant. Personally I saw too many problems that had nothing to do with our culture of riding, and I didn't want to open the thread up to bagging on cops or riders wearing sandals.

There is no report on the State Patrol website. It would appear they had no involvement in this one.

The R1 hit the side of the Police SUV. Driver died, passenger in stable condition.
From the Star Trib story:
"More than a half-hour after Franklin died, Ivan Romero Olivares, 24, was killed at the intersection of 26th Street and Blaisdell Avenue S. when his motorcycle collided with a police SUV headed to the shooting scene. The SUV, with its flashing lights and siren on, had been traveling well below the posted speed limit and video evidence showed that the motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the squad car, police said.
According to witnesses, the motorcycle had a green light and the police SUV, followed by more police vehicles, was traveling on 26th Street when it went through a red light at Blaisdell Avenue."

this is sad......and re-emphasizes the importance of helmets and attention when riding.
I personally am guilty of cruising around, looking at the scenery and enjoying a moderate/below speed limit ride thru cities and kinda depend on the normal flow of traffic, and for people to obey signs and lights, as I absorb the environment.
I do sometimes forget people run lights for multiple reasons. Wake up call for myself. RIP rider.
