Data Mining?
« on: October 20, 2011, 02:11:24 PM »
Question for the peeps that are smart with the internet and computers.  I noticed that almost all of the "guests" on the forum were viewing members profile pages.  Is this some kind of data mining or are we all being stalked?

It's the one at the top of that screen capture that makes me uncomfortable.

What is he doing anyway?

my guess, its bots from the search engines. Some boards have accounts for the bots so you know who they are. I am surprise that guests can read the members profiles, and not just logged in accounts.

Yes, it is the bots. The profiles are open so that people can get an idea of who else is on the forum. Email addresses are inaccessible and only registered users can PM or email other users.

I can close access to the profiles, but have never really seen any reason too. Am I missing something?
