This appeared on the Wards/Riverside site today.  During a helmet protest ride in N.Y. a 53 y/o lost control after braking hard and was pitched over the bars hitting his head-DOA.GJ

General Banter / 'DREAM MONDAY'
« on: May 17, 2011, 08:44:48 PM »
It was a fantastic 420+mile day. Unfortunately TK's tip over damage kept him from coming along. Hit lots of my regular stuff plus a little new and got lost(had to look at map)about 6 times-GPS takes the adventure out of it methinks! Saw 2 other bikes in Mondovi otherwise none except on 35 going home and an orange wing on O.  A wonderful day after Rossi's podium! :banana:GJ

General Banter / CHASSIS LUBE SEASON!
« on: December 03, 2010, 10:19:03 AM »
I was going to title this "LUBE YOUR REAR" but thought better of that. Many folks probably never think of things beyond engine oil, chain lube, and maybe fork oil. The wheel & steering head bearings and especially the swing arm and shock pivots generally remain out of mind until they're toast. The Futura is now empty behind the engine and I have at least 5 lbs of Wisconsin tar coating much of the bits hidden by the hard bags. I may add zerks to the shock linkage this time as all those loose needle bearings are a pain to clean and re-lube. The rear hub will get new grease also as I had a failure of the $140 king bearing @ 25k and want the new one to be immortal! Once the rear portion is back together the fork and steering head and front wheel will get their turn. @35k the Rotax needs nothing other than fresh oil and perhaps plugs. It like the K75 I used to have are pretty much bulletproof. Now if Santa brings me new tires I'll be in fat city. If we didn't live in winter wonderland and could ride year round how would these things get done? A good thing the work is progressing as the coming snowfall will make the trails usable and my skis are crying to get out. Hope you all have happy and safe holidays. :ban:Guzzi John

General Banter / "THOUGHT I WAS KIDDING EH?"
« on: November 14, 2010, 11:50:18 AM »
When I posted 'skis' to the get together forum  my Norwegian intuition knew this was coming :o. I know there are some other elderly bikers(or comely maidens) out there that still are able to put lumber on their feet. I can't go down hills at all but love getting out in the quiet woods for some nature time.  The Futura will get stripped to the bone for service but this old carcass needs to get out of the shop for the same reason. I'm sure some of you need the same. C'mon let's shoosh.GJ

General Banter / ANOTHER AWESOME MONDAY!!
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:59:13 AM »
Dazzle & I had a great ride(roads much cleaner than last time) and found TK at Arcadia for the return leg-now I owe them both ice cream at Stockholm. ;D No iffy bits other than my 3 meetings with wild turkeys.???  My only question is who was the 'Green Vested Red Honda Rider'? I saw him 1st at the wayside north of Maiden Rock(we meet at the one south). He rode by while we were there. Saw him twice more during the ride(he followed for a while) and again he went by while I was resting at the wayside before heading home. We're hoping to get in another monday when the leaves are at their fall color peak ;). GJ

I usually pack yogurt,slimfast,water,7pop in my little bag cooler. ::)  But has anyone else enjoyed the 'Pickle Factory' in Pepin? Another question is the fabled farmer who fires up his wood fed pizza oven once a week-heard of him or been there? Guzzi John ???

Introductions / RETIRED BUT NOT DEAD YET
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:28:59 PM »
Hi,a fellow from the MN Sportbike site told me about you folks. I'm 64 next month,a retired mechanic, been riding and wrenching on bikes for 50+yrs. I was a West Banker and CRA racer in the 70s and after 34 yrs of commuter riding I mostly just do short putts north and west of town. My real joy is to head for the hills southeast of Lake Pepin at least once a month. My herd is down to 4 now-'81 GS1100E,'82 XJ650 Seca,'94 XJR400(Japanese Market bike),'02 Aprilia RST Futura(for the hill country). I tend to avoid weekends due to heavy traffic and generally only get to ride mondays as I tend my 4y/o grandson the other days. I also sail a 14' Javelin on local lakes. I'm hoping to find others who still like to strafe apexes but leave the wheelies and demon braking to the squid squad. 'Guzzi John' Pierson-Champlin,Mn ::) ;D ;)
