10-4, I see your point. I didn't read your post all the way through so I missed where you mentioned that.

General Banter / Re: New York's Fastest?« on: August 06, 2010, 06:48:51 PM »So I started thinking about this, how could we validate how fast this guy is going? I watched the video again, couldn't see mile markers on the freeway so no way to figure it out that way. As someone who *once* did close to 186, I'd have to vote that this IS mph, not kph. As someone who *has been known to on more than one occasion* go 104.22, I can tell you it sure looks to me to be faster than 104. Either way I agree, they're attention whores. PS. Also note they're going ~40 on the entrance ramp curves. If it where kph then they'd be going 24mph, and it looks to me like they're going faster than that, IMO. 411

General Banter / Re: Ozark's« on: August 04, 2010, 03:26:19 PM »So, Next month, Josh, Ken, Grant (not on the forum) are all going to Arkansas for 4 days of riding, Does anybody have any old route sheets or roads that are must hit? I don't have any route sheets to share, but here are some must ride roads. * Ride Hwy 14 all the way between Omaha (Ar) and Mountain View. This is my 2nd favorite road. * From Hwy 14 ride Hwy 341 (near Big Flat) 12 miles north, turn around and ride it back (it straightens out after the 12 mile mark) * Ride Hwy 16 all the way from Clinton to St. Paul. This is my favorite road, even better than 341. Hardly any traffic but be advised that it goes through a national forest and you will run into some logging trucks from time to time. Also keep in mind that if you go down in some of the more desolate areas, it will be 30 minutes or more before EMT's reach you. * Hwy 23 from Eureka Springs to Ozark * Hwy 21 from Berryville to Clarksville * Hwy 123 from Western Grove to Clarksville. I highly recommend you ride this road from north to south the first time you run it. There are some STEEP switchbacks just south of Mt. Judia. * Hwy 27 from Harriet to Russellville * Hwy 7 from Harrison to Russelville * Hwy 263 from Big Flat to Hwy 92. You will never enjoy Wisconsin and Minnesota roads as much after you have ridden the Ozarks. The best (IMO) pure sportbikes roads in America. The Rockies and Appalachians have better vistas, but more LEO and car traffic. mmmmm, my palms are sweating. Greg 413

If you like eccentric bikes, the new Honda VFR sure is a looker.

General Banter / Re: Fuel Management« on: July 28, 2010, 11:26:03 PM »This is turning into a good discussion. Tony, you need to rant more often. Kite Flying and corny fun rides have their place. Post up a Kite Flying ride and knock yourself out. I promise I won't post up afterward telling you your way stinks. my .02 PS. This exchange is exactly what is described in the MSTA article this month. Apparently I'm not along in this thinking. PSS. The people who's opinion I care about read my pre-edited points. I've edited out the filler to lessen the drama. 415
General Banter / Re: Fuel Management« on: July 28, 2010, 03:14:30 PM »
Just to drag this thread out longer than it needs to be:
What takes time is the chat sessions during gas stops. In my perfect word, assuming I was dictator, gas stops would be only long enough to fill up on fluids and empty fluids. Let's chat at lunch. I personally get in a psychological state of mind (a riding "groove" if you will) that get's broken with a 30 minute gas stop. Although I enjoy everyone's company, I'm with ya' to ride! General Banter / Re: Fuel Management« on: July 28, 2010, 02:52:45 PM »The "other" unscheduled fuel stop only took 2.3 gallons to fill, so I am pretty sure that bike could have easily made it the 27 miles to Pepin without that stop, fuel light on or not. Come on folks, let's not single out riders. How about we just say, "Show up for rides with a full tank" and leave it at that. 417

This is an excellent point, Tony. You can ride all day on a few roads. 418
General Banter / Route Sheets« on: July 23, 2010, 09:42:34 AM »
As someone who has put together route sheets, I appreciate the time and effort involved. This post is not a shot at any one style in particular, just a suggestion in how we move forward on "official" MSTA rides.
IMO it would benefit the group if we agreed on one style of route sheet and stuck to that format. When a rider is glancing down at their route sheet (yikes, some could argue that's too dangerous as it is), it is imperative that the information is absorbed quickly and accurately. Thoughts? Greg 419

Been there a dozen times. I concur with everything Roger & Denyse said.
1st - did you trailer down there or ride? Trailer 2nd - what time of year? May and September 3rd - where did you stay? Harrison, Mountain Home & Eureka Springs (my favorite is Harrison) 4th - is there anything you would change? Nope, it's sportbike nirvana. Little traffic, lax LEO, zero gravel shoulders (clean corners!) cars that (almost without fail) pull over for you so you can zip by. How often does THAT happen in Minnesota or Wisconsin? 5th - would you go again? Yepper, going again this September PM sent. 420

This is how I would handle it as well. Brakes, brakes, brakes ..... launch over the handlebars (lol) and hopefully survive. |
