General Banter / Re: Gps help!

Yes, I run a Garmin Streetpilot 2720. Its an older GPS, but it came with Mapsource, which is a map routing software package where I can create routes then load them into the GPS. I also use the resources I mentioned about to convert files so I can upload them, because my Garmin uses the gdb format.

I have mounts for the gps on both my bikes as well as in my vehicles.

Two things you should try, go to www.gpsvisualizer.com, lots of good info out there on how to convert gps formats.

Also, do a search for ITN converter. It is a program you can put on your pc that will convert various gps file formats from one type to another. I believe ITN will convert a gpx file (gps exchange file) into a format that your TomTom can load.

Had a similar thing happen to me at the beginning of September. Guy driving a rental hit me, totally his fault (had witnesses). When I spoke to the adjuster for the rental car company he told me he first had to confirm the renter was using it for business, since he used his business discount to rent the car. Most of the time they its not an issue. I asked what if he is not, and was told I would then have to go after the renters personal insurance company. In this case, he was on business, so everything went smoothly.

If he hadn't, and I had an issue with his insurance company, my insurance company would have handled it and then went after his insurance, but only because I had full coverage on my bike. As PK said, if I only had liability, it would have been much harder to get anything.

I had removed Lloyds routes yesterday, yes, I made some mistakes. With this post I was attempting to make sure that if I had posted anyone else's routes that I wanted to make sure they knew about it and let me know which ones to take down. I don't want to keep getting PM's from other people as I already have about this. I think I have removed the ones that were unique to MN-msta. I did get some routes from other forums that were posted by members on this forum. If people want those removed as well, I can remove them.

As I said, I have over 100 routes in google maps, and I don't remember where they all came from.

My apologies to anyone where I posted a route they posted on MN-MSTA in my google docs links. I have a had a couple members ask me to remove routes and any public links to the maps in google maps and I think I have them all removed now.

I did not understand what the policy was for sharing these routes and apologize for my ignorance. My intention is not to upset anyone on the forum. Please let me know if there are any routes out there that some of you may have created. I have over 100 routes in google maps, so it may be difficult for me to remember where I got them all.

errr, I'm not sure where this disconnect is, but we're not on the same page. I'm fully (life insurance, health insurance, short & long term disability as well) covered personally. I'm talking about the cost to repair the bike. :)

The topic was keeping yourself in check, so I documented the how and why I do that. I too am fully insured, but I also carry full coverage on the bikes, even though they are paid for. Its a minimal cost, but honestly, I don't think about the cost of repairing a bike when I'm out riding. I think way more about the personal cost of crashing and injuring myself and how that would impact those around me.

Mine is more emotional than financial.

I've only had two crashes, a minor one about a month ago where a car hit me in Uptown, and the other was down by Welch village, totally my screwup. Bike was totaled and they took me into Red Wing to have me checked out. Some minor injuries, but my wife had to come and pick me up.

The look on her face alone was all I needed to remember that when I really feel like pushing it, I think about the impact of me being seriously hurt has on those around me.

I've told this to the "other" forums as well. If you don't care about yourself, that's fine, but think about the other people who will have to take care of your sorry ass when you're all banged up, or worse, paralyzed.

On page 63 of the November Cycle World, there's a comment from Ray on the CBR1000RR.

"CBR600RR like lightweight steering feel copuled with liter bike power make this the bike to buy for street use"
Ray Kang Orono, MN

Woohoo! Ray's a star!

Whatever we decide, it should be in conjunction with an MSTA event such as the BS Rally or Friends of Freddy or the SE Ohio event whatever
it is called.

The Black Hills have some great roads but there are not enough of them to justify more than 1 to 1.5 days of riding. By the second day we were
hitting up the same roads over again. Maybe if the ride was extended into the Big Horn Mts and/or Cooke City and Yellowstone we could hit
additional fun roads with primo scenery (Beartooth Pass). Don't think there are any MSTA events out that way unfortunately.

That sounds good, could make a week out of Black Hills, Yellowstone, Red Lodge

The new Kawasaki's were announced at the dealer meetings today. The ZX-10R looks good, and they also introduced a Ninja 1000, essentially a Z1000 with full fairings. It looks good and has a good price point.

The new GSXR 600 is 20 pounds lighter and 750 is 17 pounds lighter than the previous models, and both have the Showa big piston forks and radial calipers from the 1000

Ducati added a white with red frame and wheels color combo on the new 848Evo, changed the colors on the Streetfighter and changed the 1198S.  The standard 1198 adds Ducati Traction Control (DTC), the Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) and the new Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) fitted as standard equipment. The 1198S is now the 1198 SP, which enhances the previous 'S' version with the above mentioned standard equipment (DTC, DQS, DDA) plus an Ohlins TTX rear shock, slipper clutch and aluminium fuel tank in addition to the usual Ohlins front suspension, forged Marchesini wheels and carbon fiber parts.

Closer to home, Black Hills would be a good ride, might be less than a week, a little bit cheaper too.

Also, don't forget Texas Hill country, good riding down there, little bit further drive though.

Has anyone ridden in the SE Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West VA areas? Car and Driver used to do alot of on-road tests in that area and always raved about the roads.

Here are some good websites for motorcycle roads

I like Bob James and Dave Grusin on keyboards for jazz. Diana Krall's voice singing the old standards just makes me melt.

Attached is a pdf of my jazz collection, more modern jazz (80's, 90's) but good stuff. These are all cd's from my collection (I have about 1600 cd's)
