General Banter / 2016 Moto GP changes
« on: December 06, 2015, 10:28:25 PM »
For those of you who follow Moto GP closely this may not be news but since I don't follow is at all beyond Ray's awesome viewing events (thanks again Ray), I found this interesting.

General Banter / More on Ducati purchase
« on: April 01, 2012, 10:33:02 AM »
If you sell anything, a house, a car, a company, you always appreciate a good bidding war. Rivals Audi and Daimler could be in such a bidding war, if Italy’s Corriere della Sera is correctly informed. They are feuding over a troubled maker of motor cycles, Ducati.

Bike Help / New foam and cover for a seat
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:56:26 AM »
I just bought a scooter and the seat shape makes me sit in the wrong place. The seat on it's own terms is not all that bad. It's just that my legs are so long that I need to sit further back on the seat than it allows. Does anyone know of someone in the Twin Cities that can reshape the foam and make a new cover for the seat?

General Banter / A sort of motorcycle video you might enjoy
« on: February 11, 2011, 09:13:04 PM »
It's really a bank commercial but I liked it.

I hope I'm still riding when I'm as old as these guys.

General Banter / Honda selling its California test facility. Any Takers?
« on: January 14, 2011, 03:20:45 PM »
Honda America has apparently decided that they don't need their Cantil California Proving Center. They have another center in Ohio that's a lot closer to their R&D HQ.  Maybe they think that it's all they need.

It'd be pretty cool to have access to this place. You get a 7.5 mile oval and several paved and unpaved road courses.

General Banter / Need some new boots
« on: November 23, 2010, 11:49:21 AM »
I've been wearing Aerostich Combat Touring boots since they first came out over ten years ago. These boots still work fine and are really a good for both street and mild dual sport riding. However, they REALLY SUCK for walking. I need a good riding boot that I can also walk in for more than a hundred yards without being crippled. Here's what I want.

-Fairly tall (with shin armor)
-Good stiff sole that will not fold if your foot is under the bike.
-Good armor on ankles (also if your foot is under the bike)
-Waterproof (at least for rain)
-Can walk for a fair distance with reasonable comfort

Would also be nice but not required
-Speed Laces rather than a zipper closure (works better with my skinny calves)
-Would be nice if they were stocked locally so I can try them on.

Any thoughts?

For Sale/Wanted to Buy / 1999 Honda VFR800 $3,200 (repost)
« on: July 24, 2010, 10:51:08 AM »
Okay, I'm back. I finally got around to finding all the miscellaneous pieces and the bike is ready to go. It's also posted on Craig's List

1999 Honda VFR800 $3,200

I have a 1999 Honda VFR800 for sale. I just don't ride it enough any more so it needs to go. Plus, even thought it doesn't have all that aggressive a riding position, it's become a bit too much for my old knees. I've done all the maintenance myself except mounting tires. Here are the particulars.

Odometer 25,736 miles
Red Tank Bra
Spare windscreen
Model year 2000 mirrors (not ugly) and mirror extenders so you can see more than your elbows.
Tires have about 3-4k miles left
Mobil-1 15W50 and Honda filter changed every 3k miles
Valves adjusted at 23k miles
New brake and clutch fluid at 24k miles
New DID X-Ring chain at 24k miles
Ohlins shock with hydraulic preload adjuster (in a box). I never got around to installing it.

Last time I posted this I tried to set up a priority list in the order that people contacted me (#2 can't buy until #1 says no, & so on). I think that this pissed off some people so this time the first $3,200 gets the bike. No other deals or trades.

Email to dalebor@yahoo.com is okay but calling 612-616-5621 is probably better. If I don't answer, leave a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

General Banter / Rider Perception Test
« on: April 04, 2010, 09:38:28 AM »
I found an interesting rider perception test on another forum. It's harder than I thought it would be, even at medium speed. The road sign test is a bit lame but  the collision trap test is pretty good. I did not get a perfect score.

General Banter / Hydration
« on: March 21, 2010, 01:18:15 PM »
Years ago I tried the original Camelback for holding water that I could drink while riding. I stopped using it after a few rides because it was too heavy and I'd sweat a lot underneath the water bag. It also blocked the horizontal vent across the back of my stich.

Now days there are a lot more choices for hydration. What do you use and would you buy it again?
