A great champion passed on. He won MV's first 500cc title in 1956 and later was Formula 1 champion as well. His racing history is amazing.

General Banter / "It's a Machine,Not a Fetish!"
« on: December 12, 2016, 12:09:41 PM »
One of my favorite sayings but I may have transgressed! About a month ago I scored a free bike stand/table on CL. This addition really effected things. The SV got a complete teardown of the suspension/swingarm for service. There was 60k+ crud as it appears to never have been done before. With that bike done the 250 Ninja was attacked. It has only 9k but is getting the same treatment plus valve clearance. I really got into cleaning the engines with solvent and wiping every nook & cranny of the chassis on both. Have I fallen for Fetishism? Well it is a lot of fun getting more intimate with the bikes. I'm reminded of asking a TZ250 rider many years ago why he was cleaning his bike so intently. His reply was "Weight". That is true but so is the perusing every inch of the machine(especially a racer). 40 years ago I'd check my Guzzi's valves and points at every oil change but in recent years even the splattered bugs didn't get removed.  The stand has been a wonderful influence on the Winter's bike work. It is also tweaking my "Oldheimer's" as the 250 swingarm came of twice more as "Oops-the chain has to go on first and then-someone forgot the chain rubbing guard"!!  Great fun-almost want to look for "Another Project Bike"! No, that would be silly. Happy Holidays everyone!

General Banter / AUGUST HILL COUNTRY RIDE FRIDAY 8/5
« on: August 09, 2016, 12:10:55 PM »
TK & I had great time. A few deer but nothing close-well maybe the 2 suicidal chipmunks and the turkey vulture we disturbed eating roadkill(he got close!). They've been redoing the Whitehall bridge all year and now repaving main street! A lot of areas need repaving-Moen Coulee, F & Komrowski pea graveled. Also saw a lot of trees blown down S of Durand. Only squad seen was sitting in Pepin hunting late afternoon cruisers. Weekdays are awesome w no traffic in the Hills save the postmen and a few tractors.

General Banter / GOLDEN(maybe tarnished brass)AGERS?

How many other retirees, baby boomers, or fellow curmudgeons are out there? My weekday rides aren't getting huge results-3 in May and just Gramps last week. That's better than the end of last season when  there were 3 solos but there must be more of such folks in the area. It is understandable that most have to do their riding on weekends but the weekdays offer such serene lack of traffic. If you know anyone that might be interested in such rides cue them into the forum. GJ

Three cheers for Ray and his fellow 'Putor gurus for getting through the glitches and allowing us to see a fantastic race. I think it was Kim Gil UN hacking into Ray 's system. Kim only likes B'ball. ::)
