Joe, I agree with your comment about being able to get some airflow through the Stitch jacket.   If you are riding/commuting in hot weather, it will always be less comfortable than something where the fabric flows air.  When it comes to the pants, Dariens are not  equiped with vents.  I know they say you can unzip the zippers over the hips, but then the hip pads flop out. The gore tex in the stich will only move inside moisture to the outside when the outside humidity is lower than the humidity inside the jacket.  In hot humid weather there is not way for the crotch area to get any air movement  :'(  Stitch needs to upgrade their design to incorporate air movement below the waist.

I sometimes carry the Motoport liner and sometimes a thin rainsuit, which packs much smaller.  Once the liner is in, the motoport falls down in that it will flow zero air - another reason I use a rain jacket over the top.   as SLH said, they will make to your custom measurements and do an adjustment for no charge after buying.  They just reworked my pants off ebay and it was reasonable cost.

Check over on ADV Rider, I think you will find people who us Motoport for long trips, I would if it was going to have any hot weather.

Tonight I'm throwing my Vanson perf'd leather gear up on ebay and the Roadcrafter jacket and AD1 pants may go this fall.

Why?

Motoport kevlar air mesh - bought used.   Tons of armor, tons of airflow and rain/cold liners.   It is expensive new, but the stuff really seems to have versatility.   Sunday I stopped to put my fleece back on during the afternoon since it was flowing so much air I was chilled.

Awesome! Congrats. Might be a bit late here but the mini van is the way to go with kids. Tons of space and easy access. We've got a 2012 Odyssey and it is very convenient. Never thought I'd say that;-)
plus it tows a trailer nicely

.....but Joel and I represent the ST a little bit

You need bigger bellies and a preoccupation with pie stops.  :D
What about scragly gray beards?

Realization!

There is a big difference for me between riding with one - three friends and offering to lead a bigger open ride with people I have not met/ridden with.  Strangers may not already know that I am a "f@(*tard", but my friends already appreciate me for that quality.

Here was my recipe with Nathan.
1) buy fixer up so he learned how a bike worked and earned "sweat equity"
2) age 15 - take rider course on school's bike
3) age 16 take rider course on the bike we rebuilt
4) ride with me only
5) allow to ride by himself
6) he moved out before we got to the part about taking a passenger

Good kid, good lessons, he now works for a dealership FT while going to colllege.

I suggest you consider #3 have the guys take the course on the bikes they have decided to own.

Other than that, congratulations.   People used to hassle me about teaching Nathan to ride.   I would tell them A) if he died in a car accident, would you seriously fault me for teaching him to drive a car?  If not, then don't hassle me about teaching him to ride.  B) Ships are safest in port, but that is not what boats were made for.  (most people struggled to understand that one).

REI Bloomington also had the non-childproof caps last year (after I asked them to carry them).

Mine is in my tank bag.  Unless someone shoots the thing out from between my legs, I'd say it is just as safe as any steel gas tank in a crash.

MSR - get the additional top which is non-child-proof.  It opens easier and I found the child-proof top leaked a bit since it didn't close super snug.   Using any non fuel containers will get you by in a pinch, but I worry about the damage caused by leaving gas in it for more than a day.  Also if not designed for ethanol the plastic will swell.  I could not get the top off my old Swigg gas bottle because the stopper was built before ethanol was even an issue.   Filling the MSR is a pain since the fuel nozzle blocks your view of the inside, but I haven't found a better solution for supplementing my 2.1 gal gas tank.

The confusing words, "crashed with the patrol in pursuit," are from the writer at the Star Tribune.

No one ever accused me of being an English Major.  :D
No one *has* ever accuse me

:p
ACTUALLY,  "No one *has* ever accused me

DIY is one thing......just don't be this guy. You need to know your limits.

I see several bikes every year where someone tried to do "it" themself and ended up costing themselves hundreds or even thousands more than had they simply brought it in to start with.
Ah but then I couldn't buy a Sprint ST 955 with Ohlins, Russell, service manual, brembo upgrade, etc for $1,250!   The guy had adjusted his own valves and all intakes were too tight.  The thing became hard for him to start and eventually quit running.   My son pulled the head, replaced the intakes, lapped the seats and reassembled it.  I was in Chicago 2 weeks ago and the thing absolutely leaped to life with one short press of the starter.

Fred has disappeared.
According to his wife (whom I see very occasionally), he is taking some time off and enjoying being out of the industry.
