Lou out at Delano is a good mechanic, he is there certified Ducati mechanic. Also knows his way around Aprilia's, if you ever need older Aprilia work that is non warranty I would take it to him before taking it to Leo's

North Carolina, Wayah Road. Its about 28 miles long, every kind of turn you can imagine, and the whole time (west to east) you don't realize you're climbing until you get to the switchbacks at the end. Just when you think you have the road figured out it changes.

With the larger rear sprocket he will be running higher rpm's (more in the engines sweet spot), basically he is not going as fast but will be running higher rpm's, also allows more engine braking and torque, so it allows better control at slower speeds. That's why he can accelerate and slow down so quickly.

Stunters use large rear sprockets for the same reason, allows them more control, easier to do wheelies, etc. Don't know if you've ever rode a bike with a large rear sprocket, the take off is amazing, but no top speed at all.

I noticed he was running a pretty large rear sprocket like the stunters do, helps with throttle control and acceleration. Also, Spiegler has handlebar kits for most sport bikes.

General Banter / Re: Winter

With progressive I just knock my insurance from collision down to liability only.  The annual premium I pay for full coverage is about $250 and liability is $85 so I get whatever that difference is over ~3-4 months I don't ride.

I'd have a hard time stomaching paying $80 a month for a bike year round!  Damn.

Don't you mean you knock it down to comprehensive? Collision and liability should only be needed if you're riding it.

I have State Farm as well and they do set up their rates because you are not riding in the winter. Also, its great if you decide to throw it on the trailer in January and head south, you don't have to remember to put the insurance back on it. I did look into canceling the collision part over the winter and it would save less than $20 on my policy.

Every insurance company is different though, your mileage may vary.

I focus more on my photography in the winter, try to get away someplace warm in Jan. or Feb., but generally hibernate as I'm not a winter person, even though I've lived in this climate my whole life.

Bike Help / Re: Soaking Clutch Plates?
« on: October 18, 2012, 02:27:16 PM »
Question about Ducati's and dry clutches with an open cover. Someone recently told me that he won't ride his in the rain because the clutch plates will swell up. I've ridden mine in the rain and had no such issues, but I'm no expert and would like to understand more about this.
