General Banter / Re: MSTA renewal notices
« on: March 12, 2013, 03:14:01 PM »
I have not got mine yet either. I expire at the end of April. I always used to get my notice in late March. I will give it another week or two. I wonder if renewal notices will come electronicaly for those of us who switched to this system.

Bike Help / Re: RC 51

Riding to TWISTAR a few years back we had an RC 51 in our group. It ran out of fuel a couple miles this side of Arcadia. The range on these bikes is almost as bad as the Superhawk. They are uncomfortable but no worse than my 2000 Ducati 996.  On the plus side they look very cool and they sound even better!

In Matt's video we start out westbound on Hwy 160 and turn onto northbound hwy 125. The road does get tree canopy a few more miles into it after the video ends.  This is probably my favorite road in MO.

Mike wants to know my favorite all time road. :-\ That is really hard to say!

I'll go with Trail Ridge Road thru Rocky Mountain National Park. Not the twistiest or fastest road but it has incredible scenery and an ambiance that can't be beat.

Off Topic / Re: Looking for a Good book
« on: January 07, 2013, 03:14:08 PM »
Looking for a good book? Try this one.

Dakota Dawn
by Gregory Michno
published in 2011

This is the most detailed account of the 1862 war in Minnesota.
The book covers only the first week of the war. It takes a more
or less neutral position. It goes into extreme detail about the
fighting. The maps are extremely detailed. Dozens of individual
cabins are shown throughtout the region of hostilities. This book
isn't for the squeamish. It goes into graphic detail about the many
atrocities. Example: "The sight of an unborn child nailed to a tree..."
Check this book out if you read history or you live in the area of
conflict. You won't be disappointed

General Banter / Re: Crashes Reported in the Media

Bummer.  I swear the deer are becoming the most common denominator of the accidents I hear about the last year or so.

I'll try to remove another one of these varmints off the potential threats list in the coming months. I hate the bastards until the bacon-wrapped back strap is on the grill.

Don't stop at one! Take out as many as you can.

Welcome! I've always wanted an SB6R.  The best roads are mostly southeast of the Twin Cities so I can see why you ride toward Pepin. Hook up with Guzzi John on one of his "hill Country" rides.

General Banter / Re: Ride your own ride
« on: August 18, 2012, 01:57:43 PM »
I don't like to use the term "fast" to describe the pace of a ride. It is too subjective. I prefer the term aggressive.

As an example I last rolled thru turn one at Brainerd (in the rain) at an indicated 125. With the wide track, good sight line, and banking I felt like I was not riding aggressively.  Yet there have been times in WI and AR where I have charged into a blind corner at just 40-45 indicated and I was stressed and using my entire lane to make a corner marked for 20 mph. So at Brainerd I was going faster but I was much more aggressive in WI and AR.

Just my .02.
