Thanks, guys!

I didn't know that the Battery Tender leads were a standard connector.  I even have extras in the garage. :)

This is exactly what I needed to know.

I am looking for a cigarette lighter socket to install on my bike to power a GPS and cellphone (not simultaneously).

I can find plenty of socket extensions etc. that I can cut apart and add a fuse holder, but does anyone have a suggestion for a simple fused socket with wither bare wire ends or lugs to connect to the battery?

Now that you mention it, I remember locking caps for cars being heavily advertised at the time.

I dislike keyed gas caps.  I had a keyless cap on my Ducati 999 and loved it (and it was pretty).  My current bike has the stock cap.  It works fine and is technically an impressive piece but I am tempted to get a keyless - if they were not so silly expensive.

Why are M/C caps typically keyed anyway?  Is there a big problem with malicious people tossing stuff in or is it a way to make sure we close the cap?

I would be a little iffy getting out this early in the season with him just because i'm sure theres loads and loads of gravel on those twisties

I agree; this really isn't the time for a beginner to be out.

I saw lots of bikes out yesterday however, everything from BMW touring bikes to sport bikes.

Only in northern states do we also get convertibles with the top down in 45 degree weather.

Misapplied track skills can be disastrous.  I have seen this happen with cars.  One cannot treat the road as the track.

However, at least for me, the benefit of track time has been the increased knowledge of the car, what it can do, how it responds at the limit and near limit, how to really look down road and past traffic, etc.

A fast, tricky street corner that previously took up 8/10ths of my ability now barely rates a 3 or 4.  As a result I make better decision and can respond much more effectively to unknowns.  It's also a lot more fun.

I hope to get the same benefit of spending time at the track on a motorcycle.  I do not possess anywhere near the same understanding of bikes as I do cars.  I am working on remedying this.

I am certain that some track time and competent coaching is going to improve my riding a great deal.

Afton has lots of interesting roads, most of which are generally quiet (Trading Post is a good example).  Even Stagecoach isn't busy except on pretty weekends.

If you decide to come out here I will happily put together a route sheet of quieter, twisty roads to practice on. An easy to understand loop would be perfect.

John, I think you are right that most now start on bikes that are too big.  I am really happy to see the new Honda 250R.  I hope more 250s show up - plenty of them available in other parts of the world.  I started on a Yamaha 400 Seca - great bike with more than enough power for a beginner.

Secret for now... I don't want to spill the beans before I actually know that I'll be able to purchase.  =)

Makes good sense.  Here's hoping!

:)

I'm jealous.  I can't get down my driveway yet; too much snow and ice.

I have the Nemesis in (programmable ECU) and ready for testing.  Then some other stuff to install yet now that it is warmer.

We're getting close!

(Be careful out there - lots of sand, cold pavement, and at least my brain needs to warm up at the start of every year.)

Yes enjoy yourself and be gradual with your expectations and improvements. Oh and plz don't drag race down the straights if your gonna go turtle pace in the turns. Track riding is very addicting, so start saving your money!

Fortunately it is dirt cheap to track a motorcycle in comparison to a car. :)

Part of my track introduction lecture for car drivers is to allow faster drivers to pass in the straights.  It is frustrating when a slow driver in a powerful car guns it down the straights and will not let others pass.  Good reminder.

With cars we keep our mirrors.  Thus we know if someone is sitting on our tail in the corners.  With bikes do you look back at the beginning of the straight to know if someone is on top of you so you know not to zip down the straight?  I would hate to be that ass everyone complains about.

Jessica is easy to work with on date transfers and especially this early.

Indeed.  She promptly switched me to June 5.

Now for the snow to stop.  There is a lot out there already and it is really coming down.
