Not a bad price for the package (cheaper than buying separate) but that's still a lot of money.  Yike.

Very interesting.

Most here immediately take off the pollution equipment that come on Ducatis, but the fuel map is a trickier (I assume it is incredibly lean).

Fortunately the newer ECUs can be flashed with new maps.  :)

I've only been on a sled a couple of times but it is a lot more fun than I expected.

It is indeed a workout, too.  You are not going to get cold.

Lots of decent used mini-Ninjas out there to learn on.  People buy them and move up.

They are so cute I don't think I could let it go if I had one.

That would be frustrating.  The part is just an antenna and shouldn't be that expensive - but they shouldn't need to resort to a carrying a spare.  BMW owners tend to be a clever bunch.  I bet you are right and that there is no reasonable bypass.

It's twenty year old technology.  BMW should have it down by now, and even Harley provides a bypass code.

Interesting how every bike and manufacturer has their own quirks.

i thought it was in jest / tongue-in-cheek and it didn't bother me a bit.  i could see how it could though.

+1

A bit tacky but not malicious.

We tend to be pretty thinned-skinned here, regardless of topic.  My experience however is that most are not trying to be offensive or combative.  It's thus not worth taking offense.

I won't suggest a group hug however.  The hygienic concerns alone . . .

I bet there is a way; other CAN based bikes can be bypassed.  Cars also.

Again, if it is a known problem on certain BMWs I agree it needs to be taken into account when deciding to buy a bike.  There should not be this sort of problems on their bikes.

BTW, we were able to get around it by throwing a bag of ice over the ignition switch.  It would start in the morning when cool but he could not shut off the bike during the day.  Once back home, he had it hauled to Moon Motors.

Very clever fix.

I agree that if it is a known problem it needs to be taken into account.  It sounds like something to bypass.

Interesting that BMW has problems with its ring antenna.  Ducatis have had immobilizer security systems for quite some time.  I have heard of few problems.

While it would be a pain to find the part on the road, it would be easy to replace.  It's just a plug and play piece with the ring mounted right under the ignition.  Simple to get at.

Even better, if it fails on the road there is an override procedure using the twist grip.

Back to your regular programming.

Reducing your speed differential would be a good place to start.  Good luck with any attempt to out-think the deer.

No kidding; they have no brains to speak of.

The only thing I know to do is to hit the brakes, hard.

In a car you are typically better off hitting an animal rather than swerve as the ditch is generally more dangerous.  I don't know what the best thing to do with on a bike when confronted with something as big as a deer other than to stop.

At least on a bike we have some room to move without going off the road or even into another lane.

I think you should buy one of every bike you tell us about and show them off in the spring - replete with demo rides.

Plan?

The Ducatisti are convinced that the end of the world is coming early with the introduction of the Diavel.
