i really like the "ride-focused" nature of this board thus far and i hope that the prevailing vibe is one where differences can be dealt with or put aside and we can all match up with the riders and rides that we enjoy.

+1 !

Decent segment that describes the show itself, but I had hoped for more on how they make the episodes.

Typical 60 Minutes stupid weenie narration however: "Tom Cruise was nearly killed."  By driving a car that happened to end up on two wheels, while wearing a full face helmet and a full harness in a car with a roll cage?

Ray, you are correct; few people understand how the process works.  Productive change only occurs through doing something which, for a legislature, means passing bills.  Nothing can be fixed by sitting on it.

I had not considered the challenge of fighting the public perception that every bill adds complexity.  Repeals however occur only as the result of a successfully passed bill.

I would argue that every streetbike would be safer and better with ABS.

+!

We have seen this with cars.  Even superb drivers have trouble beating ABS for braking distance and then only under specific conditions such as certain types of gravel.

Additionally ABS allows steering input during threshold braking, something even the most skilled drivers cannot readily replicate.  I assume this benefit extends to motorcycle ABS systems as well.

It's interesting how enthusiasts are often against driver aids.  However many of the car "offs" I have seen on high speed road runs have occurred when the driver turned off actively handling and traction control.

I readily admit I am not as good as ABS and good traction control.

passenger ready, includes a back seat , grab bar and footrests....lol

Passengers need entry level bikes, too.

Adorable.

It's even fuel injected and has ABS.

The mini-Ninja is very competitively priced (I think they break even on the bike).  I wonder where this new Honda will be.

Everything made sense except for "short lengths of steel rod."

What do you do with the rods?  Defend yourself against small animals with sharp teeth?

I pay cash also.

Bike and other vehicles fully insured.

I understand the thinking that assuming the financial risk of a crash keeps one in check.  However there are soooo many ways to crash or lose a bike I have found it is worth keeping them insured.

. . . how can I train myself to do it right without breaking my neck.

The exact reason I started this thread.  There is always more to learn.

If riding well wasn't a challenge we probably wouldn't find it as fun.

The more common error is standing the bike up and getting on the brakes.I personally find this hard to resist sometimes.

Done it.

Then yell at myself for being stupid.

I may have figured it out.  Counter-leaning takes less physical effort.

I just returned from a ride.  I found that if I counter-lean it is easy to initiate a turn by pushing on the bar in the direction of the turn and pulling on the opposite bar.  Your body turning to the outside and the bar turning go together well.

Steering takes more effort when you also lean into the turn.  The total pressure on the bars isn't really different, it just takes more perceived effort as it isn't as easy to use the big muscles in your shoulders, back and hips to turn the bars.

I'm not suggesting anyone is lazy.  Rather like all animals we prefer actions which take less energy to accomplish.

I'm finding I make better turns when turn-in and apex are relatively late, with a quickish turn-in involving simultaneous bar movement and weight shifting to the inside.

I like getting better. :)
