You had your chance.  I was there when the dealer gave you first chance to put a deposit on the one coming to Duc Mpls.   You passed.  You'll have to find who bought that one and get it from them second hand when the next model comes out.

"The Panigale flicks from left to right with the eagerness of an R6"

I'm skeptical about this comment.

Most tests I've read say the Aprilia RSV-4 is the most flickable
of the litre bikes. But none say it flicks like an R6.

Bikes become flickable when their base price gets up to $25k.  :D
Title: Re: Droooooooool
Post by: vince on February 13, 2012, 05:32:45 PM
I was thinking about the same thing only a little bit lower say $23k. But you have to put on that over priced exhaust system so that is $2k. So your right Paul $25k and you can flick it.

Can't wait for the 2012 litre bike shootouts - Dethrone the S1000RR? At $10K difference, I doubt it!

Can you say ZX10R.
Title: Re: Droooooooool
Post by: Tim... on February 13, 2012, 08:45:27 PM
Unless Kawasaki has the marketing budget of BMW Motorrad, no, you are riding a second class citizen.
Title: Re: Droooooooool
Post by: Ray916MN on February 13, 2012, 09:27:50 PM
It is looking like it is going to be between the BMW and Ducati. If the Ducati comes in at the manufacturer specified weight even though it is likely to be a little shy of the BMW in terms of HP, it could very well be the winner, even in base spec. 414 lb wet, would make the Panigale 10lbs lighter than last year's R6. At 414lbs. it would be roughly 40 lbs lighter than the BMW and would be over 20lbs lighter than the Kaw.

The ZX10R is going to have a tough time competing with these two latest and greatest machines. Were it going to have a good chance of winning, it would have won the 2011 shootouts and would be at least be competing from the reigning champion position.
Title: Re: Droooooooool
Post by: vince on February 13, 2012, 10:09:53 PM
Well I sure hope they weighed the Ducati all wet. Did you look at the rear exhaust pipe. That thing was made to keep the rider warm that's for sure so your going to need some kind of cooling system.
Third place you say, but then you put in the dollars and then it's right there on top.
Title: Re: Droooooooool
Post by: Deplorable, thank you! on February 14, 2012, 09:08:23 AM
 You don't.....well I don't compare a 13,500 bike against a 23,000 bike.

But whatever, magazines pick winners solely based on advertising dollars. All of them are so close in the real world that the winner is really everyone that gets to ride them.

And until I get one of those ducs on my own scales and weigh it back to back to something else--I don't believe for a second it comes in at 414 all wet and ready to ride.

The CBR and a bike I bought in December, but have never ridden go.

I bought another bike in January which has yet to break cover, so if things continue on this path, I'll be on two new to me bikes this season.

A distinct lack of tank bag and GPS mounts for the 1199, could keep the miles down on this bike, but we shall see.

My guess is that BMW has an HP S1000RR in the works that will up the ante again.  Kudos to BMW and Ducati for raising the bar - the Jap response has been anemic, to say the least.
Title: Re: Droooooooool
Post by: Deplorable, thank you! on February 15, 2012, 09:24:32 PM
Atleast those "anemic" jap bikes can be ridden day in and day out everyday without having to rob a bank every week, see a chiropractor every 200 miles and go in for extensive maintenance multiple times a year (if any actually are ridden for more than show)......

Seems to me everyone I know who owns a duc has a jap bike as there daily rider that they actually trust and have fun on as well as log the miles on then a duc for a once or twice ride each year, usually short and usually just for show......

So from a riders standpoint ;
"anemic" Jap bike +100000000000000000000000000000

overpriced Duc 0

Let the argument insue.

The S1000RR can be ridden daily (I know) and the new Duc can; apparently, based on the reviews.

You know Ray that I am Italian. So maybe I should go with you when it comes in and ride it home for you. Because the bike is so high priced you might feel better if you are the 2nd person to ride it than the first. Let me know when.

Thanks for all the positive comments folks, I'm really looking forward to this bike. I hope it has the staying power of my 916.

OTOH, the other yet to break cover bike passed a milestone the other day and is now DNR registered. Next step is Subd 12 Dual Registration (https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/statutes/?id=84.788&year=2011). Wish me luck! This bike will be even rarer an unique than the Panigale.

So the bike I arrived. It is being shown as I type this at Motoprimo. I went down today to finalize the deal and changed my mind and cancelled my order.

If anyone wants, the bike is for sale. You could be riding a new 1199S tomorrow.

For what it's worth, the 2012 S1000RR won over the 2012 Panigale in the latest MCN shootout.  1.5s a lap slower - stating corner stability as a major factor.  At our level of riding, none of this is relavent... The Panigale sure is pretty.

Looks like it.  This bike is based on the MotoGP bike, which has no frame.

Article Summary "Ducati has released a series of photos of its revolutionary Panigale 1199 (http://www.gizmag.com/ducati-1199-panigale-review/20587/) superbike without its clothes on, showing exactly how the bike is held together in the absence of a traditional frame. But while the monocoque chassis is pretty fascinating to look at in the flesh, what strikes us most is just how incredibly compact the bike is - every component has been squeezed into the tiniest possible space. In fact, you can't even see clean through the bike at any point until you reach the rear hugger. This is mass centralisation and weight shaving taken to a whole new level… Good luck trying to service the thing yourself!"
