That's good to know Larry; looking forward to getting that far south.

General Banter / Road conditions 2013
« on: April 29, 2013, 09:38:22 PM »
Whattup, for those who are curious I rode on Sunday overall road conditions were really good.

Cr O - Not much sand about average

Cr A - pretty good shape

Cr AA just south of Maiden Rock - I know some people like to ride this one I'm glad I skipped it because everything within site of 35 was covered in sand.

Cr SS - perfect, no sand, fresh blacktop on the last part of it made it the best time I've ever ridden it.

Cr N from SS back down to 35 was perfect.

The only roads that had a fair amount of sand were 37 and 88 had some expansive nasty areas but a lot of the fun twisty bits were very clean.

I didn't get south of there and came back on 60 and 11 which were spotless, along with Welch which was perfect for now.

Happy riding.

General Banter / Re: Curious - Does the 5 year rule still apply?

I bought an ebay unit to replace the liners in my 9 year old helmet now.  It's more comfortable and a bit quieter now with the plush newer stuff.

I think the 5 year limit is lawyer talk based on the percentage of helmets/users that have been probably been abused or dropped and should be replaced.  Car seats are labeled the same way.  If they're stored inside I have a tough time you have to replace it just because it's 5 years old, it's a solid piece of plastic.  If it's wore out or brittle replace it.

RIP to that dude.  Way too young.  Almost all young guys make bad decisions never thinking the worst will happen.  Condolences to his friends and family.

Welcome and nice bike.  Besides a CF hood and kit anything done to your 350z?  My previous ride had a VQ35 in it.... it was quick but much more of a sleeper than anything.

You could ship it off to somebody who does stock seat mods like Spencer's Seats, and ask him to lower it an inch in the back so you're not always sliding forward.  He did good work on a seat of my last bike for $75.

Otherwise I'm sure there's lots of aftermarket options.  I really like Sergeant Seats from the couple bikes I got to ride with them.  Not as hard as a Corbin but firm enough to prevent hot/dead spots.  Good luck to ya.

Nice pickup by him as I'm sure there's a ton of used scrap parts out there on those bikes.  But like you said 18 yo riders are the reason for them!  Keep an eye on eBay or a CBR forum

^ It seems like people still don't commute much on their bikes but I think leisure/sport riding has grown immensely in the last ten years.

Even on nice summer days I only see a few motorcycles on my evening commute through the cities on 35W.

I use an oversized joe rocket all leather jacket with a heated liner under neath and it doesn't let any air through.  Certainly comfortable into the 40s.  Mornings in the 30s are okay but eventually a chill will seep in.
