General Banter / So long and thanks for all the fish
« on: June 06, 2014, 01:30:19 PM »
New chapter in life.  Have relocated to London, and just wanted to say thanks to some great riders and friends (dating back to the Yahoo days).  Denyse, Greg, Larry, Paul, Vince, Ray, Tony and many others, peace be the journey.

General Banter / Brilliant concept...
« on: December 10, 2012, 02:07:27 PM »
... hope the execution lives up to the hype (http://litmotors.com/c-1/).   Think these guys are on to something, but am having trouble with the concept of my phone's gyro controlling whether I fall over or not.  Although, my phone does a pretty good job at being self-aware.

Response to an add placed on WERA (FBI complaint submitted)

"Thank you for your response, I'm very satisfied with the condition of the helmet and the final price. I live at Brooklyn, NY 11214, all i need you to do now is to consider the helmet sold to me. I would like to have your Full Name and Address with your Phone Number in order to mail out the check to you. I work with United Nations on Global Environment Facility Energy Right, right now I am in Germany for a confrence meeting to pledge and support the Global Environment Facility Energy, but i would instruct my secretary to issue the check out to you immediately. You don't need to bother yourself about the shippping, I have an international courier shipping company that would come for the pick-up, they would also determine and secure the shipment because i have some other items which would be shipped along with yours so let me have the weight of the helmet so that a waybill can be created before the shipping would be done cause i would be adding some extra fees to the check which is meant for the shipping and insurance. All you need to know is as soon as you receive the check, you would deduct your fee and send the rest funds to the shipping company information that would be provided to you in the meantime. I would tell my secretary to call you, so please get back to me ASAP with your Full Name, Address, Phone Number and what you decide so we can proceed with the payment. I would be hoping to hear from you as soon as possible."

General Banter / MotoGP vs WSBK
« on: July 24, 2012, 06:50:36 PM »
It baffles me that WSBK dominating riders such as Spies and Toseland fall flat on their faces when competing in MotoGP.  Are the riders in MotoGP that much better? It certainly cannot be the bike considering MotoGP has gone to 1000cc.

Don't get it!

Race 2 was incredible.  Definitely preferring WSBK racing over MotoGP - much more competitive.

So, who was to blame for the last corner crash? Rea, Melandri? Melandri was never going to hold that line, and Rea saw an opportunity... Apparently the Haslam side of the garage thought Melandri caused the incident.  Personally, I think Melandri should not have tried that move and take one for the team.  A one-two finish in the two races is better for the team.

Can't wait for the next race.

General Banter / What are your favorite MN/WI Roads?

For me, it is the CR-J/CR-SS/CR-N loop between Stockholm, WI and Pepin, WI.

General Banter / Google Maps
« on: April 28, 2012, 03:35:16 AM »
Does anyone know of a way to include the turn-by-turn directions when exporting a Google route to a kml file?

Background:  Working on an ios application that will display the route on the "Maps" UI and in addition want to be able to display the driving directions, but it appears that the exported Google kml does not include directions.

PM me if you would like to collaborate.  Nothing commercial, merely an academic exercise on my part.

General Banter / "Street" Line
« on: April 23, 2012, 05:45:19 PM »
Just curious as to what peeps think about the line the rider on the mn-msta.com front page is taking, which I presume to be WI 95.  Is this a safe line for the street?

Think this year is shaping up to be close (drivers and constructors).  The China race was exhilarating... Hope to see the same in Bahrain(hate to see a countries politics involved though) .

My money is on Hamilton for Bahrain, I hope McLaren let him loose as he is fun to watch.

What happened to Red Bull, being dominent over the last two years, it looks like they are off the pace compared to the Mercedes powered cars?

Speed coverage is actually quite good - "turn up the volume"

WTF is with Stoner and his ailments - "arm-pump" seriously?  Do not get me wrong, as I know what this is, but seriously, that is the best excuse you can come up with? - Lorenzo put on a master class.  Yamaha are looking formidable this year.

It may not be the most exiting M/C racing around, but at this level, like F1, it is all about tyres and how they are managed.  Total nieve guess on my part, but I summarize the reason Stoner lost is tyre degradation.

Does Rossi have a point with Ducati not "listening" to him?

Still not sure that the CRT teams add anything beyond filling the grid - time will tell.  Building up a bike from scratch, and to be competitive in the first year is daunting - kudos Colin Edwards.

Apart from the second episode of season 18, that had a great piece on Chinese car manufacturers, it has mostly been disappointing.   Thanks to Youtube for preserving this brilliant Top Gear humor
