It is after all a lot easier to put the wheel back in when you do it that easy way.

Safety and Riding Tips / Tires, safety and age.

I bought a used Honda CBR900R. Very nice condition. Looks like new. After a little work on it to get it running. I took it to work. On the freeway changing lanes the bike slide out on me both front and rear. It does get your attention for sure.

A few days later I take the bike to Vintage Bike Night. I almost dropped the bike going around two corners. I get to Bike Night and I have friends look at the bike. I said put your hands on the tires. Everyone that did said. Those are hockey pucks. How can you ride that thing.

It is hard to find a set of tires for that bike with a 16" front wheel. But I did and installed them right away.  I rode it to work the next day and to ride it to last Thursday Vintage Bike Night.

Left work to head on down. I get down the street. Before highway 13 there is a frontage road. It is a bad intersection. I hate it on the bike or in the car. Anyway I have a green light and a minivan at a stop sign on the frontage road. Pulls out at full speed to beat out other cars coming at him.

Well you guessed it. We are going to hit. It is going to be a T bone. He is going to T bone me on my left side and take out my leg. Or I T bone the right side of his minivan. I would rather hit him than he hit me. I lean to the left and hit my brakes. I skid the back tires and hit the front brake hard as I can. The bike does a stoppie. Of course I have to let go and regain full control of the bike. Then start over to try and stop and miss the van. The van after seeing me speed up then slows down then speeds up again. Well because he finally decide to just speed up and go though the intersection I was able to avoid the van.

My point here is that because I had put good tires on I did not crash hit my brake so hard. The bike did a stoppie. I didn't even know it could do one. If I had the old tires on. When I lean the bike over to the left. Then hit the front brake that hard I would have washed out the front end. I would have gone down hard. Most likely would have maybe gone under the van. Very bad.

So even if your tires don't look bad if they are old. They are bad. Change them. Your life depends on it.

What that ride your own ride has always meant to me was. Don't ride over your head. Ride within your safety zone.
I agree that you should ride the leaders pace. Unless of course it is faster than you care to go. Out of your safety zone.
If you don't want to keep up or feel that you are holding up the group. You can leave and ride your pace. This is why we have route sheets or the GPS files to follow.
So following the leader gives organization to the group.

What I like about the TPMS is that you can see how fast tires warm up. Even is below zero temps. And yes you can see which wheel is doing all the work. Pretty nice on all wheel drive cars and trucks.

So as long as we are just rambling. And we are talking about riding motorcycles. Something that we like to do. And that is why this forum exists.
All forums are not doing well. Facebook and others have taken their toll on them. ZG is gone. MNSBR is pretty much inactive. Twisted Addiction is gone also. I think there is more activity here than the others as far as this forum layout goes. FB forums are doing well.

As far as group riding goes. The only group rides I see are on the Harley forums. And their rides don't go far. And they stop to drink must of the time. They stick to just a few roads. I have seen them lately getting on other roads.

As far as leading a group. Not everyone is cut out for this. One is putting a route together that you think everyone would enjoy. Two you have to lead at a pace that you think everyone would keep up with. We do have a route section so one does not have to put a route together. That is always nice to have.

As long as we are just talking here and it sounds like you are not happy. I remember when I meet you. I heard about a group of bikers that like to ride fast. They meet at the java hut. I went there many weeks before any bikers showed up. You were that group. Just 3 or 4 of you. I ask to ride along and you guys said sure.
One thing that became real clear was that you only rode one set of roads. You wouldn't take any other road. I was wondering what was going on. Someone told me that you guys were racing. Yep pretty much I thought. So you know how many times I tried to get you guys to take a different route. Every time for two years I tried to get you to take Welch. Then one day it happened.

Since then you have learned of this group. Learned new routes including The Boogie ride. You have lead many rides and now I would say have a following. Mostly from the boogie ride I think. But not the point. So why are you not leading any more or leaving the group. Only you know that. I would think that because you get a good size group that you enjoy doing this.

Last year you were trying to get others to step up. That's good. So if others don't or haven't you want to stop. I would think that because you enjoy the group ride and like to share the experience that you would stop counting and post more.

I remember when you started leading rides here. You only would lead the group until lunch stop. Then you went home and left the group. Everyone was to find their own way home. As time went on we met new friends and found new roads to ride. We to road trips together. Week long trips together. Life was good. Something happen over the winter.

I have a lot of biking friends. Most don't come on these group rides. But on the last group ride one of my long time friends found me at the creamy. He followed some of us home. Now he wants to come on more rides. He wants a phone call. He is not on the web. Will he ever lead a ride. No. So the group gets bigger but no more leaders. Is this soar grapes for you. I hope not.

I'm not sure what your post is here. You leaving. Staying but not riding with us anymore. Only riding if on your posted ride. I can see your unhappy. But every ride I have been on with you I would say everyone had a good time. Doesn't matter if we got lost or missed lunch spot. Got a flat. Crashing is bad but everything else is always good.

Anyway what ever it is I am sure we will see you on the road.

A friend on mine is saying just the opposite. Yes there are shops going under. There always will be. But of last Saturday he told me he was so busy selling bikes that after he closes the doors. He is still there for an hour doing paper work for selling all the bikes. He says sales are up more than 20%. Another thing he pointed out was that young people are coming in and buying. He says this is just great. Lots of good deals on non-current bikes. I saw 2017-19 bikes on the floor. For me it was hard to walk out the door without buying a new bike.

That is way to warm to go snowmobiling. We have several feet of snow here and it is nice and cool to keep it here. You should check your place and maybe dig yourself in to get in.

If it walks like a duck talks like a duck looks like a duck it’s a duck.
Ducati says it cools the tire by 7°.   And it does and why does it do that.
Because when the motorcycles get going over 100 miles an hour the rear tire starts slipping which is generating heat.
That scoop is generating almost 70 pounds of downforce at 110 miles an hour. What do you think it’s doing at 200 miles an hour.
 It’s not a tire cooler, it’s a traction device for acceleration. It’s a duck.
And everyone knows it. KTM and Honda are really pissed off over this. They are tired of Ducati always cheating.

So that little scoop under the Ducati's seems to do a lot more than what Ducati says it does.  It cools the rear tire at least 7 degrees. And get this. At 110 mph it produces almost 70 lbs of down force. In the protest Ducati had to reveal their secret.
