General Banter / Route postings that users may not want made public
« on: October 23, 2010, 07:32:39 PM »
My apologies to anyone where I posted a route they posted on MN-MSTA in my google docs links. I have a had a couple members ask me to remove routes and any public links to the maps in google maps and I think I have them all removed now.

I did not understand what the policy was for sharing these routes and apologize for my ignorance. My intention is not to upset anyone on the forum. Please let me know if there are any routes out there that some of you may have created. I have over 100 routes in google maps, so it may be difficult for me to remember where I got them all.

Woohoo! Ray's a star!

General Banter / New 2011 bikes
« on: October 05, 2010, 08:11:06 PM »
The new Kawasaki's were announced at the dealer meetings today. The ZX-10R looks good, and they also introduced a Ninja 1000, essentially a Z1000 with full fairings. It looks good and has a good price point.

The new GSXR 600 is 20 pounds lighter and 750 is 17 pounds lighter than the previous models, and both have the Showa big piston forks and radial calipers from the 1000

Ducati added a white with red frame and wheels color combo on the new 848Evo, changed the colors on the Streetfighter and changed the 1198S.  The standard 1198 adds Ducati Traction Control (DTC), the Ducati Data Analyser (DDA) and the new Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) fitted as standard equipment. The 1198S is now the 1198 SP, which enhances the previous 'S' version with the above mentioned standard equipment (DTC, DQS, DDA) plus an Ohlins TTX rear shock, slipper clutch and aluminium fuel tank in addition to the usual Ohlins front suspension, forged Marchesini wheels and carbon fiber parts.

Bike Help / Chain Adjustment
« on: August 31, 2010, 09:34:48 AM »
Some questions on Chain adjustment. I recently adjusted the chain on the Aprilia I bought, the guy had it way too tight. My understanding has been that you are better off having it looser than tighter because having it too tight can bind during suspension travel as well as wear out your sprockets faster.

Other than measuring the slack in the chain all the time, what is a good rule of thumb for adjusting your chain? This would be for your average, street ridden bike.
Is it every 500 miles, 1000 miles, 1500, 2000?

General Banter / New York's Fastest?
« on: August 03, 2010, 07:22:58 AM »
Anyone seen these articles? Couple guys supposed to be the fastest on two wheels, but never go to the track, call track guys pussies, etc.

The first link is the article, the second is a video. What I find interesting about the video is that at 186 the road signs and cars they are passing aren't flying by. I believe its 186kph, not mph (which is about 111mph). But why is the tach all the way up at redline? Different size sprockets than stock? Would be interested in opinions of guys who have raced and hit these speeds, is this a fake? Also the GPS confirmed speed I believe is also in KPH

Either way, these guys are just a couple of attention whores, punks and they were able to convince someone that they are the coolest and fastest.

General Banter / The return of Buell?
« on: August 02, 2010, 01:19:31 PM »
Interesting video of a Buell "race" bike with electric fans and turn signals. His non-compete clause with Harley expires on 2-1-2011.

Bike looks good, and if you are a Vtwin fan, this is good news. I'm sure its still the Rotax Vtwin, which is a stout and bulletproof motor as the same motor architecture has been used by Aprilia since 2000 in their twins.

General Banter / Sexy bike has a new name.....
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:59:00 AM »
Ducati is releasing an EVO version of the 848, new stealth gray color, 140bhp, upgraded suspension.....awesome! Better bhp/litre/1000rpm ratio than an S1000rr. I think this was the special model they were going to unveil at Laguna this weekend.
