General Banter / Mark Twain Advice
« on: September 18, 2010, 04:40:12 PM »
Hello All,
Thumbing the blade in the Ozarks and having a grand old time. Larry B, Jared P, Tonk K, Duke, Greg and James from KC need some advice. Monday is our Missouri day and we're wondering if any one knows the surface conditions of the roads in the sections of the Mark Twain National Forest east of Mountain View and Salem, Mo.
Any input is appreciated!

Yes, Virginia, Santa does exist and he created Japanese inline 4's and the Ozark Mountains.  :)

General Banter / Cornering Line / track vs. street
« on: September 03, 2010, 12:36:54 PM »
First off, please forgive the very crude Microsoft Paint jpg. Art was not my forte' but I think this drawing gets the point across so please don't get bogged down in critiquing my drawing.

Also, for the purposes of this post, the road that you see drawn is the right lane of the road, not the entire road. As to my way of thinking, the oncoming lane is never an option for me. YMMV.

The "line" you see drawn on the left is similar to a race line (I know it's not perfect, so you type A racers just chill  ;)...it's close enough for the purposes of this post). I've seen some folks take this line on the street. I would purpose that eventually this kind of line will bite you because the rider is crossing over sets of gravel that are often going to be in the corners.

The "line" on the right is the safer line IMO, as you are following the cleaner "lane" of the corner. You're following where the cars tires have cleaned off the corner gravel.

Thoughts?

General Banter / Turn #1 at BIR
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:48:07 PM »
I just need this confirmed. Don't read more into this question than is there.

Are there brake markers (signs or similar) going into turn #1 at BIR telling you when to brake?

Inquiring minds want to know.

General Banter / Route Sheets
« on: July 23, 2010, 09:42:34 AM »
As someone who has put together route sheets, I appreciate the time and effort involved. This post is not a shot at any one style in particular, just a suggestion in how we move forward on "official" MSTA rides.

IMO it would benefit the group if we agreed on one style of route sheet and stuck to that format. When a rider is glancing down at their route sheet (yikes, some could argue that's too dangerous as it is),  it is imperative that the information is absorbed quickly and accurately.

General Banter / STAReview
« on: July 12, 2010, 08:12:11 PM »
Great write up by Darcy Holter in the most recent edition of the MSTA STAReview! Tony Kellen, Roger Reis, Paul Kobo and Ray Kang are also mentioned and their smiling mugs (sans Tony as he's got his helmet on, lol) can be seen gracing the pages as well.

There also is an excellent article that is a must read IMO on page 16. In a nut shell the article talks about how all of us ride the exact way we like to ride, and then therefore by default ..... our way is the best and all others are suicidal maniacs. Keen insight into thinking before judging others riding styles.

General Banter / Winston Churchill Memorial & Library
« on: May 26, 2010, 03:44:17 PM »
I encourage any history buff to visit the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library in Fulton, Missouri.
If you are in central Missouri with several hours to kill, this is well worth your time.
Fulton Missouri is where Churchill gave his famous "Iron Curtain" speech.

Introductions / I'm Greg
« on: March 17, 2010, 01:26:00 PM »
also known as Dwayne Weber, but more  correctly by Greg Yager. I've been a regular member at Yahoo for about 10 years, but only recently officially joined HSTA (MSTA).

I don't ride a 929 anymore or live on Stevens Ave, but other than that ...
