I love flat seats-like old GS Suzukis! For the most part they don't exist anymore.  My Futura has a great seat but my ancient bony arse still gets sore. My solution is a sheepskin with a gel pad under it. The added thickness also allows me to slide back and do the ass up "Doctor" position-especially when slabbing.GJ ::)

The Equinox passed quietly int he night and the morn is bright and COLD!!??  The Futura is nearly ready after winter R&R-new front tire should be here today too. Also put a camchain in the GS1100 so there'll be 4 runners in the garage. Hope to see some of you soon.GJ ::)

There's a possible alternative at Leo's. An '02 Aprilia Falco-31k for $3k.  I'd go for that b4 the 51 because of my love for my '02 Futura. The Rotax motors are bulletproof-I haven't had to change a single shim in mine @43k! In that time I've had 1 bad coil and this winter replaced weepy waterpump seal.  I would've bought a Falco but I didn't fit-needed to drop pegs several inches to accommodate my ancient 6'3" carcase.  I've never been impressed w Honda-had an '83 "Cam Eater" Interceptor,I do love my GL650 though.  Just the ramblings of this old fart. Hi,I used to live @ 46th&Oliver years back. I'm in Champlin and ride west & north from here(I might be a safe alternative to JVS's Coon Rapids"CARIBOU DEATH RIDES"on Thursdays).  I also lead weekday rides in the Wis. Hill Country if you care to make one of those. Just be warned I'm "Slow & Ancient"-50+yrs riding! Good to have some newbies to counter us Oldheimers. GJ ::)

Leave it alone Weedhopper!! I thought you had a project bike to mess with. My Fut's similar to your bike and at 40k+ I won't change a thing-It might go 150+ but it can get 50mpg. So many folks(including me sometimes)think they know better than the factory guys. Leave it be or put a girder & hardtail on it-then post it on Ebay with a $30,000 reserve and watch the bidding war. GJ ::)

I've thought of a 'SEX CHANGE' not just to be able to use both sides but also develop a 'Cushy Tush' to replace my 'Bony Arse'! GJ :o

Ray's reply was excellent! I'd ad a concept I try to follow-If you're familiar w the old Battlestar Galactica(w Lorne Greene) recall the Cylon robots that had a red eye which constantly scanned from side to side.  I try to keep that sort of environmental awareness while on the road. On the track there are corner crews watching out for oil, rocks, turtles or whatever so the racers can concentrate on their lines and competitors. On the back roads or in town it is all up to me. This has kept me alive for 50+ years of riding including 35 commuting to work. $.02 from this Old/Slow Fart. GJ ::)

Being a senior member in mind & body I find this discussion very valuble. I too wish I could be as fast as in the dim past but with all the extra experience of the added decades. That said I know the reality of aging has slowed me and with the meds I take having the same pitfalls as you discovered-I get faint if I stand up too quickly.  A few things I try to do on the long rides is have a snack at the meeting spot, carry water in my bags to stay hydrated, and take rest stops with greater frequency as the day progresses.  I certainly notice that with fatigue my timing goes off, lines get ragged,I use brakes more, and have to think for a moment about what road am I on??   GJ ::)

Hi & welcome. I'm one of the few on this forum on the North end.  Joel likes to chase me on his Concourse.  Perhaps you can come along on my weekday rides sometime. Guzzi John-Champlin ;)
