I find her interpretation of songs associated with Billie Holiday to be particularly fine.

That's nice Greg.   :)

My wife and I danced to THIS SONG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPJuFxl0bxY) as our first.

I love his stuff...

Any recommendations for similar (or any really good Jazz pianists?)

I like Bob James and Dave Grusin on keyboards for jazz. Diana Krall's voice singing the old standards just makes me melt.

Attached is a pdf of my jazz collection, more modern jazz (80's, 90's) but good stuff. These are all cd's from my collection (I have about 1600 cd's)

I just sampled some of those recommend... they seem more funky.  But maybe I sampled the wrong songs.   ???

Wow! That is quite a collection. I gravitate toward Miles Davis, Larry Coryel, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Oscar Peterson and a few others.

Really tough genre to follow. I find artists go through phases which dramatically alter their sound and style. For example, some Miles, Coltrane and Monk I find incredible, some other of their stuff I find too abstract to listen to.

One of my favorite tracks of all time is John Klemmer doing "God Bless the Child". Long out of print LP and never available on CD or as a download, the rendition was so emotional it caused one reviewer to comment that it drove him tears. Of course most people only know of him for his pop jazz song "Touch". Here's another recording he made of the song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jOj6caO2JQ&feature=artist) which unfortunately is not quite as good as the one on Nexus for Duo and Trio.

Thread made me remember this great. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzvlivbptXk) a seminal live recording at the Montreaux Jazz festival in 1969 which tied Les McCann and Eddie Harris together for the rest of their lives. So much great music..

Geez, I left Billie Holiday, Art Tatum, Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gilespie and Dave Brubeck off my list of favs. My first Jazz LP was "Time out" with brubeck.

You're right - a lot of fusion in flyinlow's list.

TK's lists are of straight ahead jazz classic artists - excellent stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations on music by avant garde jazz pianist Cecil Taylor?  I got a taste of some of his very complex music while watching the Ken Burns documentary on the history of Jazz.

Funny shit right there.

John Coltrane is the only "jazz" I will listen too.  The rest, quite honestly, puts me to sleep (not a bad thing).

This song puts a smile on my face every time I hear it. Such joy it exudes ....

Note the bridge at 1:12 and the solo at 1:56. They are such departures from the original theme of the song, but they still work together somehow.
