Title: Hi from Kent
Post by: mudduc on June 21, 2015, 01:09:29 PM
Hi All,

I'm signing up to MN-MSTA to re-connect with some of you and get to know the rest.
I was pretty active with MN-Sportbike.org, CRA, CCS and NESBA a decade or two ago.  I really enjoyed time on the track, on the road and in the pits or lunch spots with all you riders in the past but I've been focused on my kids (now 10-Duke and 12-Lizabeth years old) and work and don't have a strong pull for recreational riding any longer.

I still love to ride wherever I'm going.  Rain or shine, warm or cold (well down to 10 degree-F or so) I will ride but I'm always riding to get somewhere rather than just for the ride.

Perhaps Susan (wife) and I will join up for a ride or two in the near future once we've put a used FJR1300 ($4500 budgeted) in the garage.
My daily ride is a 2008 Yamaha WR250R it's got 40,000 miles now and needs a rest/rebuild.

Hope I can see some old friends and new acquaintance sometime soon.
Later,
Kent Larson

Welcome Kent. Been awhile, or maybe a decade. See you on a ride sooner or later.

Welcome back.

Hey I now own a Blue 2005 Yamaha FJR1300 with 34774 miles and tip-over scratches on the right side.
Seems solid and smooth up to about 80mph.  Gets buzzy in the 100 to 120 range but engine still sounds good.  All gears are smooth.

Seems to have somewhat of an oversteer but feels planted in corners.  My last 40,000 miles are on a WR250 so it feels different but not bad.  I tend to adjust to bikes rather than try to adjust the bikes to me.  It looks like the previous owner put spacers on that have the bars up and back a few inches.

I wouldn't mind switching with another FJR owner on a ride sometime to compare the sound and feel.

I'm riding to Knapp, WI via and hour of back roads on Friday if anyone wants to join up.

Later,
Kent

Are you still in Woodbury Kent?  I'm over in Evergreen and have a 2007 FJR if you want to go for a ride some evening and try another one.

Cool.  Thanks.
Yep, still in Woodbury.

I'm heading to Boy Scout camp with my son this weekend but I'd love to get together sometime in July.
Send me a text and we can set something up.  Susan and I will try to make a weekend group ride or two in July as well so maybe I'll see you then.
I have the same cell number from 20 years back if anyone wants to contact me.

Howdy Kent, good to hear from you. Give my best to your lovely wife and get those RC51s back on the road.

PM me if you want to set up a time to get together and catch up.

I hope you are keeping that WR.

I should always have my trusty/rusty little WR250R.  It's my winter and bad weather ride.  I just bought a new exhaust for it (original can broke the weld to the header pipe) and did a valve check/adjust (exhaust valves needed a minor tweak but intake were spot on still at 36,000 miles).

I'll put new tires on before winter and I may want to do cam chain and rings but I'm worried if I take it apart it will never get back together again.

Later,
Kent

Are you the Kent with the barb wire from 15 years ago?  :)
Did that WR get into  Dual sport riding?

Yep, that is me.  I don't recommend riding your bike through a barb wire fence but I guess it could have been a lot worse.
I got the WR for winter/bad weather commuting.  It paid for itself in fuel savings (vs. my truck) at 35,000 miles but it is going to start needing some more expensive maintenance soon.  Rings, timing chain, etc.

Hope to see you all on a ride or something soon.

Later,
Kent
