General Banter / Re: MotoGP 2012

You guys forget about how much crap Stoner got when he went to Ducati and had troubles early on and complained about the bike but figured out how to ride it. I like both of these guys, but I'm siding with Stoner. Valentino couldn't figure out how to ride the Ducati, I've had bikes that I didn't care for and didn't like riding. I got rid of those bikes. Granted these guys get paid to figure that out, but at the same time if you don't like something and you're a top rider, its easy for you to go somewhere else. There's a whole lot more going on here than just riding bikes, there's more politics in this sport than you can imagine. Also, the article you posted is an abbreviated version of the full article here: http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresults/MotoGP/2012/August/aug1512-stoner-slams-rossi-yamaha-return/
There's alot of truth in that article about what Rossi and Burgess said they could do when they got to Ducati and what they actually did.

I suspect in this case the officer may have tried to avoid the girl and lost control, all these guys have good training on riding. The "official" police release however says he ditched the bike in an effort to not hit the girl, which to the general public then makes it look like he was in control the whole time and made a conscious effort to avoid the girl. Its really about damage control, trying to show the officer was in complete control the whole time and made a conscious decision to try and save the girl. Instead of being mad about that, be mad about the father who A. allowed his little girl to run out in traffic and B. who then wanted to beat up a cop for hitting her, when it was his own fault in the first place.

Don't believe everything you read

You can see on the replay that the something broke causing the crash. Coming down through the corkscrew the suspension unloads and then compresses fully, all within a second or two. Surprised there aren't more failures of suspension components.

If you're choosing an Arai, you need to take a look at the different models they offer. Each one is made for specific head types, you need to figure out what yours is and choose the right one. Go to Arai's web site and take a look. Also, you need to make sure you have fitted the helmet correctly. There are many dealers that don't know how to fit a person correctly for a helmet. Each manufacturers fitting is a little different, but they all follow some general guidelines. Attached is a doc on helmet fitting

Selling some of my bikes, need to thin things out. These ads are for my Harley and Aprilia, the Ducati Streetfighter will also be for sale as soon as I get it back from the shop. I'll be keeping my KTM RC8R.

I've never understood the whole badge of honor with a dirty bike or dirty leathers. Clean them, they'll last longer.

That's a tough question. If I'm reading it right, you want a bike that's more comfortable, but weighs less but keep the horsepower. The problem is bikes have gotten smaller. Most liter bikes are about the size of 600's from 10 years ago or even less. Something like the VFR is a good choice, I liked the one I had, it handled very well, was comfortable (I'm 6'2") but its as heavy as your gixxer, but not as heavy as an FJR or ZX14 concours. The new VFR (2010 and up) is heavier than the old one, but a little more comfortable. Its a nice machine but a little expensive.

The problem with the sport touring class of motorcycles is the range is so wide. On the bottom end (as far as physical size goes) you have the Ninja 1000, by all accounts a very good sport tourer, more on the sport side than touring. On the other end is the BMW K1600gt, really more touring than sport, but still a good bike. The FJR and Concours are somewhere in the middle surrounded by a few other bikes.

One bike you may want to look at is a Triumph Sprint ST or GT. It has a 1050cc triple, plenty of power and torque, decent ergonomics (get the 2006 or newer as they made some comfort improvements) but still more on the sporty side than touring side.

Check out the two videos on how they make a retread vs. a new tire. Similar processes, but which tire would you trust? I'm going with the new tire, after seeing how they repair a carcass to do a retread, I'm not sure they should be allowed anymore.

I have asked Jessica before and pretty much got a "not interested" brush off. But it doesn't hurt to ask again
