Thanks for the heads up on this Pat.  I hope there are at least a few seats left for the 8th since I'll have to wait until pay day to register.  Good thing that is in a few days!!

I'll look at it a little closer but shootin' from the hip, I would say add a day & a half to either side of the actual event.

Is anyone interested in going to this?

http://www.sporttouring.us/content.php/204-Texas-Hill-Country-2010

I've ridden on the edge of Hill Country back in the spring of 2005 & would love to go back.

Post up if interested & we'll see what works out.

We saw a bunch of dead deer on the sides of the roads in the Brainerd Lakes area today.  I too have noticed an increase in spotting them this season.

May have to take up deer hunting to help control the population!!

General Banter / Re: I need a new riding suit
« on: July 02, 2010, 09:05:49 AM »
My new Aerostich suit came in the mail yesterday!!  Picked it up this morning & wore it to work.  So far I LOVE IT!!  Now I have to get it broke in before next weekends ride around Lake Superior.

I know some others wanted to go up to Duluth & get fitted & such but Jon P & I happened to be up there so we stopped in.  I appreciated his patience as I spent some time getting fitted!!

I would still be up for a ride to Duluth for others though.  I have some days off to burn before the end of September so if anyone wants to plan a weekday to go up thats cool with me.

We could do Jay Cook & Hwy 1 to Ely & back as well as catch lunch at Canal Park or something.  I just need a weeks notice or so to get it approved.

Mark,
Last year you made a big contribution to the number of rides posted on ZG. If you were organizing rides at the same pace that you did last year everything
would be wonderful. But I certainly can't blame you for taking employment. I had to do the same thing this Spring.

Thanks tk, you're too kind!

I know many others contributed as well.  Overall, for me it was the new job that changed things & the climate on ZG.  It has gone way downhill in my humble opinion over the course of last season & this year it is pretty bare in respect to quality rides & events.

I mainly stopped posting them over there because I'm tired of the mentality of a few that can't let stuff go.  I know a lot of people appreciated the rides & events I posted there but lately all I get is personal attacks from the head of the forum & a few others whenever I try to do things.

If things change maybe I'll consider posting rides & events there again but for now I'll just keep tabs on things & make it to what I can.

Nudge your friends to organize a ride and post it here (and anywhere else).

Any rides I post up likely will only be on this forum but I may send out invites to a select group of other friends via facebook/e-mail/phone/text.

The abundance of posted rides on the ZG forum is a big contributing factor to that forums success in my opinion. Their forum members step up to the plate, show some balls (or ovaries) and get things done. We can do better than we are doing.

With all due respect I beg to differ a bit there Tony.  If you really look at it there has not been a lot of rides or events this season on ZG.

Those they have had have been mostly small cliques of people getting together or have been full of drama.

ZG isn't like it used to be when I first came on there.  But I've kept mostly quiet on the subject for a reason so that is all I'll say about it.

If anyone wants to know more please get a hold of me in person.

We can do better than we are doing.

I agree whole heartedly there!!  I'll do my part & put adhoc/pick-up rides up when I can & thank you tk for the acknowledgement about posting rides.  I know I haven't posted a lot but glad someone noticed the ones I have.

Tony made yesterday's TRI STATE BOOGIE ride, about 450-475 miles for most.  Now thats a die hard- 19 days after surgery, he's out schooling the youngsters again.

Well said Lloyd....it was great to see him out there having fun & doing much better.

plus the other forums seems to be collapsing in on themselves.  i have a funny feeling this place will be crowded soon.

I hope not....this place seems to be doing fine the way it is.  Well I guess it depends on the newbs coming over.....quality not quantity is a good benchmark.

The other forums are doing fine. Look at the size of their kickoff rides!

MN-MSTA is over 20 years old. We've never done a kick off ride and I can't see us ever doing a kick off ride, the other forums will always be better suited for riders who like riding in or being part of a big group. Our group is more focused at fostering riding in small groups, where riders know and trust each other. Ride with the group long enough and you end up with a large pastiche of different folks to ride with.

Ray I agree with part of what you said here but the part I don't is that the other forums are doing fine.  Sure they may have large kickoff rides...but thats...about it.  Both of the other main forums in the Twin Cities have had their share of controversy that surrounds them.

That is part of why I don't post over on either of them much anymore.  Not that I want to see either of them fail but I do think they both could be better if some minor changes took place.  I never did post much on MNSBR to begin with but was a big contributor to posting on ZG until this season.  I won't go into too much other detail here since I don't want to bring things to the MSTA forum from elsewhere.

I'll end with saying that I look forward to "fostering riding in small groups, where riders know and trust each other" this season like you said above.  I have enjoyed the rides I've been on with some of you & look forward to meeting more of you this season & beyond.

were all newbies and tumbler is already a junior member. whats this all about?  tumbler, have you been hosting mouth party events?

LOL....not at all...probably has something to do with how much some of us have posted or maybe how much time we have on-line.  Not sure why that is.
