General Banter / Re: BIR This Sunday
« on: July 19, 2011, 12:57:24 PM »
Nick was in front of me, and he didn't have any trouble staying out of my way. He was just plain fast on a R1. The heat just beat us to death and when we loaded the van there almost wasn't room for us and there was lots of room going up. My helmet and leathers were like I just laid them in water. Martin was excited and he should be he road it perfectly. I needed a very good start and only got a good start and I blew the joker on one lap. I tried to make it in 2nd gear and almost went onto the grass going wide. I hate that turn. We were on the short course for the race because it rain for one minute at lunch time and the drag strip was slippery at that time. But it would of been nice for the race I had the speed for turns one and two.

15 on the grid, 5 laps, and 1.50 to 1.54. Their was a least 2 CRA racers that were not part of the grid but in the race to watch and stay out of the way. Their may have been as many as 5 not sure. They are not part of the count. 5 bikes were 1000cc.

Do you mean like how did it go that it was hot out, or that we left the gas cans at the track, or that we didn't bring a spare tire for the trailer and maybe some tools to work on it just in case. Oh you mean the race. Well my friend Martin won and I finished second. Martin head was so big that we almost didn't have room for him to fit in the van for the ride home. That's why we had to leave the gas cans at the track. Just think if we would of had a spare tire for the trailer what would of happened with a big head in the van. If I would of won their wouldn't have been room for Dave or Martin.

General Banter / BIR This Sunday

Well I'm going up to BIR this Sunday to do a trackday. So after all these years of talking the talk. Everybody is forcing me to enter a race and walking the walk. This is going to be on the long course just like the old days. It would be nice to be in the front row but that is not the case, I'm in the last row on the start. Can't they just make it easy for this old guy. I wonder if they are going to make me take my tank bag off. I need a route sheet. Can you make me one Ray. Start on the starting line go 3/4 mile to turn 1 go left at top speed. Waite I think I'm lost allready. Ray I need your GPS. I got a set of Bridgestone R10's that I will put on at lunch time so they are in good shape for the race. They are suppose to be better than their slicks, will see. Wish me luck.

Well I just got back from the Smokey's and I have these tires on the CBR. I have 2400 miles on them and the front wore 1/32" and the rear 2/32". This was at 34 psi front and 36 rear. With the road temp at 132 degrees my tires were at 117 front and 121 rear. These tires worked great and in a down pour I was doing 110 and they were glued to the road. We rode 300 to 400 mile days and we rode hard. I saw this post on the trip and was watching them. I don't believe this guy. One day in the pouring rain we rode at 85 to 90 for over 100 miles. The tires have a nice round profile after 2400 miles. What more can I say.

General Banter / Re: How Can We Make 2011 A Crash Free Year?
« on: June 23, 2011, 08:21:02 AM »
I think it helps that we keep these rides here only and yes quest are most welcome. There are others that are on other forum that do come on these ride but I think the know that it is a much differant pace here. For one we ride mostly in the double digits and they ride mostly WFO. I go on some of their rides. Also because we are yes a little bit older that we will speak up and tell some one that they are doing something that they shouldn't be doing. On the other forums they seem to except this behavior. They are getting it now because I been yelling at some of them for this in front of every one. In fact on one ride I am told this one rider had seven others with and all turned around and went home because of the way he was riding. Good for them. Any one of us can crash at any time but at least we try to lower the risk.

Well I have done both surfaces because I read it somewhere. But looking it up in the shop manual it says to lube the O-ring and the threads of the oil filter. Something else it says is to measure the length of the - I didn't know it had a name - oil filter boss to see if it is coming out. On my bike this is .61-.65 of an inch. I also clean the area where the filter goes on the engine case. It looks like I have been waisting a finger tip of fresh oil for many many years.

I have seen this many times and I wonder how you do this when you are suppose to put oil on the engine case and then on the filter before you put the new filter on.

I skip gear all the time with any bike after I reach the speed I want. None of my Honda's have false neutrals.
