General Banter / Re: Hydration

I've got a waist hydration setup which I usually just put in my tank bag. I let the bite tube hang out of the bag so I can pull it out for a drink while riding. On long hot trips I'll wear it if I'm wearing a two piece set up, but when I'm in my one piece Stich it doesn't work.

I've been trying to figure out how to embed some random pic displays in the site, but have yet to figure it out.

Add pics to the site Gallery and once I figure out how to put more pics in the site I'll use them.

BTW PKPK

So what specifically makes you think it is controversial or unsafe?

it is right above the quote;
"To us, safe riding starts with dressing properly for riding, being a proficient rider, riding witin your limits and riding your own ride. ...Read More "
Yet the rider's knee is clearly in the oncoming traffic lane (as is a lot of the upper body).

I feel part of the "anti-squid" philosophy we have in this group is to ride in your lane, not crossing into the opposing lane just to carry more speed through the conrer.

from the Pace article
6 Never cross the centerline except to pass.
Crossing the centerline in a corner is an instant ticket and an admittance that you can't really steer your bike. In racing terms, your lane is the course; staying right of the line adds a significant challenge to most roads and is mandatory for sport riding's future.

I've always interpreted "crossing the centerline" to mean the wheels of the motorcycle crossing the centerline. As motorcycles lean when turning and the left tire track is often the safest lane position for navigating a turn, it is hard for me to imagine that the not "crossing the centerline" would mean keeping the rider's body to the right of the line at all times. This type of rule would imply that on tight switchbacks, proper lane positioning for navigating a left turn would be to ride the center of the lane or the right tire track.

The rider is completing a greater than 90degree left hander leading to a slightly decreasing radius right hander. Would you suggest a rider approaching this turn be positioned in the center or right track of his lane instead of where he is pictured?

The turn the rider is navigating is a 30mph marked turn. Of course the rider could try to navigate the 30mph turn in the left tire track at a low enough speed so his body wasn't crossing the centerline, but to me this is why we often talk about balancing sport riding fun and safety. Clearly going slower would be safer, but so would staying at home.

Make sense?

General Banter / Re: I need a new riding suit
« on: March 19, 2010, 05:16:22 PM »
Vince, give Bassett a call and see what he has to say about the Olympia synthetic suit. It is another alternative to the Stich.

Riderwarehouse now also has waterproof 2 piece leathers. Very pricey, but they look like lifetime garments.

Personally I think what you get depends on what you want the suit for.

If you want an all purpose suit good for multi day rides, a Stich is hard to beat. It versatility and utility really pay off on multi day trips eliminating the need to carry other pieces of riding gear.

For day rides in really hot weather nothing beats perforated leathers or mesh synthetics and for cold weather day rides leathers still seem the warmest and least drafty to me.

If you folks decide to go up to Duluth to visit the Riderwarehouse, let me know.

Thanks for coming to the forum and thanks even more if you joined.

First and foremost, this forum is intended by where Minnesota sport and sport touring riders set up "Pace" rides, share opinions, and balance SAFETY and SPORT riding fun.

This forum has been set up to eventually replace the MN-Sportbike YahooGroup I started almost a decade ago and while there are other Minnesota motorcycling forums, it is our hope that this forum comes to be the leading forum for balanced, open, respectful interaction between Minnesota's sport and sport-touring riders

Routes / How To Post A Route to This Forum
« on: March 15, 2010, 01:36:12 AM »
This forum is for posting  routes only. Please do not respond to posting or discuss posted routes in this forum.

Please include the following in the title of your post
  • Date route used
  • Name of route/ride
  • File Extension

In the description please include the following information on the route

  • Start city/state
  • End city/state
  • Length

For length, please specify the route length as a range in 50 mile increments (eg. 250-300) and then specify the length like this "(~280)'.

Formatting your route post this way will make it searchable, so that people looking for a route starting in a specific place of a give length or for a route used on a specific ride will be able to find the route.

If you need a place to host the route file, click here to upload your file to this site.
