Thanks,  Ian

Bike Help / Re: Getting a tough fork Seal out

On some Right Side Up forks you just put the lower in a vice and use the upper leg like a slide hammer and pull the seal out by "pulling out" the narrow stanchion tube.

Manual?

This forum was originally started in 2000, predating MNSBR, ZG and TA. It is the forum of the Minnesota chapter of the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA). The MSTA is an  AMA chartered club which was founded in 1982.
Founded as Honda Sport Touring Association (HSTA) and prior to this site, MN's HSTA chapter's web-presence was as a Yahoo Group.

That might explain why I had a Wabasha Sherriff tail me the whole way across 60 today.  He kept dropping back trying to trick me into riding a more Vince-like pace.   50 was soooooooo sssllllooooowwwwwwwwww.

Safety and Riding Tips / Re: Thoughts on Lane Splitting?
« on: August 11, 2015, 09:41:28 PM »
Erich, I don't know if you have actually seen filtering in Europe.   Your math is bass ackwards.

No Filtering -  every vehicle waits at a red light in two rows, and only 20 make it through on the green light (10 from each lane).
vs. Filtering - where 6 bikes queue up between the two lanes, and accelerate ahead of the first cars as they leave the green light in now 3 columns.   26 make it through the light now.

So if you were vehicles 21-26, filtering actually got you home earlier.

I like your comment about selling HOV lane passes.  Yes, it caused uproar, but today its no big farkling deal.   I'd pay to lane split!!!  Perhaps if we proposed it as a revenue enhancement tool, we'd get it passed quickly.  Different color license plates would confirm you had paid for the privilege.

Practice makes perfect.  I prefer the British term "filtering".

I'm procrastinating opening up the Xmoto to find out what I broke.
Now that was strange!!!  Bike wouldn't turn over on starter and wouldn't turn via allen in crank.    Opened it up and nothing was wrong!?  Once open, it turned by hand fine and no broken timing chain or valve stem.    I bolted it back together and it ran on the starter but wouldn't spin very fast unless the throttle was wide open.  No start (gas is now old) so I charged the battery and tried it with ether.

It starts - but only when the throttle is wide open, because it spins faster then.   Runs strong on the stand and has good exhaust pressure pulses.

I can only assume the cam I am running creates too much cylinder pressure for the starter.  I would have thought that  longer overlap create less pressure.

I did chain and sprocket on the Triumph and I'm procrastinating opening up the Xmoto to find out what I broke.   In the mean time, I've fallen in love with my next bike.   Xmoto will be up for sale when it is back to full strength.

Destroying his jacket and helmets would have been way cheaper.  I don't know why people think they can wear the same gear later just because "people might have forgoten the combo of bike, jacket and helmet"!

Hey, perhaps that is why I get new gear every couple years!

In that situation, I hope I  remember what we told our son, "Right now you have a problem and it is your choice how big you make it!"
