Jay Cooke
« on: March 11, 2014, 11:56:44 AM »
Took a little spin yesterday 3/10, went into J Cooke from both ends as far as I could. Put on almost 100 miles and it got up to 57 degrees. Bike got a little dirty, but nuthin soap and water couldn't take care of. All thanks to a much needed break in the weather. That's the new bridge in J Cooke 8)

Excellent!

I saw one bike out in the Twin Cities yesterday.  A great sight.

Put on almost 100 miles and it got up to 57 degrees.

I would not be concerned; the engine will run warmer than this in the summer. :)

How much is left to pave/fix?

Talked to a park ranger, he said it won't go through this year for sure. Rumor has it, it might not go through at all but the ranger said that was highly unlikely.

That would be very disappointing. It is a beautiful area to ride.

I highly doubt that it would be closed through because both sides of the park depend on park traffic for business.

The State Senator for that region (Reinert) also happens to serve on the Transportation and Public Safety Division Committee.  Problem solved.   :)

It seems kind of foolish that the State would spend the money to build the bridge (what... to nowhere?) without plans to reconnect the road. Same here, fingers x'ed they get it done. I really miss it!

Read an article in the Duluth News Trib that J Cooke is going to be reopened late 2015. Good news to be sure!

There was a recent article in the Duluth New Tribune regarding J Cooke, it looks like its going to be a two year rebuild for it. Sound like there's a Lot of bank stabilization to do.

I've heard it is fully rideable on a supermoto.

I'm not quite sure what to make of that though. Lol
