Fuel bottle opinions

Any one have input on fuel bottles like the MSR ones? Looks like 30 oz is the largest. Ive heard of people using aluminum water bottles, but I wonder how the cap holds up?

You hit on the key issue - you need a cap that will stand up to fuel.  I've used MSR bottles and they work well.  I recently added a Rotopax to a dual sport bike for an extra gallon mounted securely.  I know folks who have used the bladders from the Starbucks/Caribou coffee boxes.

MSR - get the additional top which is non-child-proof.  It opens easier and I found the child-proof top leaked a bit since it didn't close super snug.   Using any non fuel containers will get you by in a pinch, but I worry about the damage caused by leaving gas in it for more than a day.  Also if not designed for ethanol the plastic will swell.  I could not get the top off my old Swigg gas bottle because the stopper was built before ethanol was even an issue.   Filling the MSR is a pain since the fuel nozzle blocks your view of the inside, but I haven't found a better solution for supplementing my 2.1 gal gas tank.

I don't own one, but it's definitely the route I would go for auxiliary fuel.

Mine is in my tank bag.  Unless someone shoots the thing out from between my legs, I'd say it is just as safe as any steel gas tank in a crash.

Thats about the size of the tank on the bike Im looking to cary extra fuel on.
Waiting on another hard wire GPS cable so I can atleast keep track of mileage. I just know I need something more long term than a plastic gas can bungied on the back seat.

I use the MSR ones when I am touring, I have two of them. They hold up very well and can give you the needed extra range to get to the gas station.

REI Bloomington also had the non-childproof caps last year (after I asked them to carry them).
