Just happened on this by chance. Coverage of most of race. Great stuff except Devil Child on top again. He is awesome. Great 2nd for the Doctor. Unfortunate for Vinales and Morbidelli.

Ask Rossi. Winning makes you feel young.

So that little scoop under the Ducati's seems to do a lot more than what Ducati says it does. It cools the rear tire at least 7 degrees. And get this. At 110 mph it produces almost 70 lbs of down force. In the protest Ducati had to reveal their secret.

The spoiler really isn’t illegal, by a strict reading of the current rules. Kudos to Ducati (and Yamaha ran one last year for at least one race) for developing new tech to make the bikes faster. That’s the whole point!
Either they will change the rules, or all teams will be running these soon. Probably you can buy a 3D printed one from FleaBay for any liter bike already. 😂

If it walks like a duck talks like a duck looks like a duck it’s a duck.
Ducati says it cools the tire by 7°. And it does and why does it do that.
Because when the motorcycles get going over 100 miles an hour the rear tire starts slipping which is generating heat.
That scoop is generating almost 70 pounds of downforce at 110 miles an hour. What do you think it’s doing at 200 miles an hour.
It’s not a tire cooler, it’s a traction device for acceleration. It’s a duck.
And everyone knows it. KTM and Honda are really pissed off over this. They are tired of Ducati always cheating.

It’s not illegal, by a technical reading of the rules, which only bans aero spoilers attached to the fairing. Ducati even got advance clearance from the Marshall’s/judges/whatever. I follow a podcast by a couple British bike journalists called “Front End Chatter” and they always recap MotoGp in depth - and that was their take anyway.... regardless of how you look at it - I’d recommend that podcast to everybody - one of the best. 👍🏻

Marquez says Honda will copy it, now that it has been officialy ruled legal.

A brilliant idea. The spoiler rule is a bit much as fairings have evolved constantly since the "Dust Bin" days. I've always preferred "Run What Ya Brung". But let's see-how bout a restrictor plate for the "Devil Child"!
