2011 Planning - Phase 1

As my wife will not be campaigning next year, I'll be putting together some week long rides in 2011.

This followed me home today. I'll set it up for 6 bikes. 2 fit in the bed of my truck, so at a minimum we'll be set to haul 8. With other tow vehicles and trailers in the group, we should be able to pull together a pretty good sized week long ride somewhere, where the riding is good.

So where are we going?

A day of trailering and then hitting the road on the bikes, I had a blast in CO especially Loveland Pass 4 times. I’d like a chance at Black Canyon since I missed that last time around.

I would be in for this just post some ideas for dates. The only sportbike trip I have been on was with Rodger and Tony to Star, it was great. If I go and drive my trailer can take three bikes. Don't pick the Moto GP of Indy week that's a must see for me again.

Idaho & Georgia have some good roads but quite the haul.
Wyoming, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas is always good for several days as well (even if some may think it is overdone)

Yes Idaho, drive to Buffalo Wyoming (about 700miles) then head up and over the Big Horns, into Idaho then loop back to Wyoming :-)

I'm in for a week long trip some place new!     I vote for before Memorial Day or after Labor Day (less tourists)

Vistas are without equal in the western states, but for my money traveling east yields tighter, better roads with some beautiful views as well.


lol, Arkansas is "overdone"?  That's like telling the BRI, DCTC and REI Coop regulars that riding around and around and around (with break markers! LMAO) all day is "over done".  To each his own.

Actually picking the week including the Indy GP round or Laguna Seca round is a great idea. I've incorporated WSBK and GP rounds into week long trips before. Hard to beat a week of riding in California, coupled with a weekend of watching races at Laguna.

Could do CO and southern UT coupled with the Miller WSBK round.

Is a $2k trip. It would be sweet, but pricey.

2K is out of my budget too, I can do a 6 day trip 2 in the truck and 4 on the bike.

Paul, ST 1300? I had one of those on my trailer, so I would think that it should be fine on Ray's

My $2k estimate might be a little high.
Truck gas: 1800 miles round trip to Denver @ $3.00 gallon / 8 MPG = $675 round trip split by 4 guys = 168.75
Hotels: $120 a night (could be more) doubling up 2 guys = $60 x 7 nights = $420
Bikes gas: $30 day X 5 days riding = $150
Food: $50 per day x 7 = $350

That's $1087.75 at a bare minimum and not including WSBK tickets. My guess is that hotels run more than $120 a night in the Rockies.

Quick Laguna Seca budget based on 10 days - 1 day out (about 24 hours of driving in shifts), 1 day back 6 days riding, 2 days at the races.

High cost of $1900 per person including transport cost, lodging, gas for 350mi/day riding, food

- 4 people go
- $3.30/gal gas
- $40/day food
- $50/night lodging outside of Monterrey
- $140/night in Monterrey
- Premium 3 day race package (w/parking)

Low cost - $1400

- 8 people go
- $3.10/gal gas
- $35/day food
- $40/night lodging outside of Monterrey
- $70/night lodging around Monterrey
- General admission 3 day race package (w/o parking)

i was joking (about the ST in the pickup.)  I would never trailer that bike since it's perfectly suited for long distance travel.

I'm all for hitting the Ozarks. It isn't that far. It's cheap. There are plenty of roads for multiple days of riding.
It was a blast riding with Roger and Vince in NC, VA and GA but we spent a long time in the truck just getting
there and back. This is something I would do again but not for a couple years from now.
