Noob to the group from Wyoming, MN
« on: March 04, 2012, 12:33:32 AM »
Hi MN-MSTA,
I'm Wade, from Wyoming, MN (just north of Forest Lake). I followed one of Ray916MN's posts at 1000rr.net over here (Thanks Ray!). It all looks right up my alley, and hoping to get together for some Pace rides once Spring gets here. In my mid 40's, on-again off-again rider for 20 years. Last year a good friend who I used to race cars with decided to take up 2 wheel racing, so that has become the current obsession. After seeing A) How at the edge you have to ride to be competitve and B) The results of crossing the edge, I have no desire to compete...but do enjoy the exhiliration of "spirited" riding, and also like to know first hand what effect changing preload, damping, geometry etc has on the bike, so I can help my rider stay confident and competitve while he's out on the track. So I figured it was a good time to get myself back in the saddle.
In November, after a few months of researching/shopping, I got an '03 Aprilia Falco. Glad to see in the previous New Member posts that there are a few other Apes here! So far, other than trip home, I got it out on Thanksgiving Day and for a few miles back on Jan 10th, when it was 50°. :) Looking forward to the next opportunity!
Regards,
+P / Wade

Welcome Wade. Check the "Rides" section for the pinned "2012 Ride Calender" post. The first organized ride is just over 6 weeks away. Woohoo!

These people have taught me more about riding than any day spent on a track: Larry B, Tony K, Vince J, Mr. Wonderful, V2Neal, Marty F, Kevin B, Devon W, Ehrich, Mike A, John L, Arnell, Kirk, Ray C

Track days are like climbing the rock wall at REI.
Perhaps I need to stop taking the high road.

Welcome.  You'll love that Rotax litre engine.  I put 36K miles on mine before I decided I preferred lighter bikes (and ended up with a 650 Rotax).

Welcome to the forum Wade. Glad whatever I posted on 1000r.net encouraged you to join this forum.

Planned MN-MSTA rides for this year can be found here: http://mn-msta.com/index.php/topic,946.0.html . There are already a couple of other rides planned which haven't been added to the schedule yet, and on weekends where there isn't a planned MN-MSTA ride, typically someone puts a ride together and posts it to the Ride / Get Togethers section of the forum.

Looking forward to meeting you on a ride.

Thanks all for the Welcomes.
Mike Duluth...I end up in Duluth a few times a year...but usually with Mrs. Plus, and she's much more of a fan of picking rocks in Two Harbors than riding two-up, but maybe I can figure out a way to do both?!? I'll let you know if I'll be in the neighborhood on two wheels. I'm confident there are some great hidden twisty routes up that way.
After spending more time reviewing the Forums, I'm even more looking forward to meeting the group and finding my place in the Pace.

Those who have actually NEVER tried riding the track could learn a thing or 10 about being a better streetrider; because let's be honest; none of us (Greg) are as great as we think we are. LMAO!

Nice to have new riders in the North end.  I'm in Champlin-do short runs N. & W. from here and mondays in the 'Hill Country' at least once a month. GJ

Welcome & glad to see some new riders here!! (So to speak of course)

I'm in the NE Metro so look for rides to jump off up that direction this season.

There's a bunch of knowledgeable people on here as far as racing/track days goes so hopefully they will help out.

Welcome P,

Too bad you're up on the northside all the good roads are to the south!  Actually I hear there's some good stretches up there too.  Happy riding.
