Safety and Riding Tips / Re: Sharing Safety "Moments"
« on: April 08, 2012, 09:37:10 AM »
probably about 10 years ago, i was so excited to start riding again after a long winter and was a little too pumped

i was weaving in my lane going about 35 and had the wrong combination of throttle and compression of the suspension, and my body and head was turned just looking at the georgeous spring trees developing.

next thing i know, i had a tankslapper at about 40mph.  sad but was lucky that i didn't go down.  even when going slow and what I thought was a casual and leisure pace enjoying the roses, bad combination of factors could have put me down.

I'm going to chime in.  The strength of this forum is having well run, logistically adept ride leaders that have strong knowledge of the routes.  This deserves respect, along with the time, effort and risks of putting together a ride.

Forum members enjoy this, and like the ability to join in something already set up.  Some people take riding seriously (as in #1 or #2 priority in their life, others enjoy it as a casual hobby while others have external time constraints).

Keep it simple and more people will enjoy the routes, the rides, and the forum.

I like to take my cruiser thru these turns sometimes and try to hold my imaginary 1/3 of the lane, trying not to cross that line.  It makes it fun and also makes easier turns to be fairly difficult.

I agree everyone is riding for different reasons, so it is impossible to have them ride for your reason.

Off topic but maybe good to add this.  I pay $78 liability for vstar650 '00 and also $101 liability and comprehensive on the 636 ninja 04  It is only 17 bucks for comp so I have theft protection.

Noone wants to steal the vstar so I don't think theft is a problem.  I am with the others here about not buying collision because it is such a money maker for the industry.

I would like to ask peeps about why they have umbrella, and how much that costs.  (I don't have it myself and am not really educated as to how I would use it).

Please don't take away my french fries.  or my shakes....or my burgers.

Actually it is just sad what I consume in a week.  Yes I know that it is unhealthy, also know that it has caused my weight gain.

Maybe I can take a pill to absorb the fat intake, and flush it out?

After taking two bottle of the stuff over time, I seem to feel better, but still have gained weight.

I think this is the weight my body feels most comfortable with.....carry on.

I will thirdly support that Pirelli Sport Demons are the way to go.  You can't argue with the whole Ninja 250 community and their choices.

Just go with what ten thousands prior to you have gone with.  It would be hard to say they are all wrong.

Guys - ignore the troll.  Provocation gets this guy off.

I agree.  It seems like the posts are aimed at this community and to kill time.  I would prefer a moderator consider a ban.  It is not in the spirit of this forum.  I don't mind differing ideals or even debates, but toying with people is not what this forum is about.

Also, it is clear to me that this is an experiment for Yul, and not true discourse.  Having a short lived joke is fine, but this is beyond that.

your bike is still a pretty new model.  wait till end of 2012, then look on ebay.  there will be plenty of wadded up parts for you to choose from.

if you are really worried, take off all plastics and ride it ugly and naked.  I also don't like the idea of a cage.

you can be too careful and crash too.

litigation is needed to keep people held accountable, but this case was insanely ridiculous.

reminds me of one of the reasons why doctors don't charge less because their malpractice insurance bill is huge.

Dude, good luck with the future procedures.  Keep a good spirit as I believe it helps with the healing.

If you need anything, please drop a line.

pretty good comments in this thread.  it has made me reconsider my following distance.  I like to be close to the rider ahead of me because it is a personal preference, but I've never considered it much of a hinderance to them as I usually know them and ride with them all of the time.  but sometimes i forget and creep upon others i'm not so familiar with.  appreciate the lesson.  rock on bitches.

maybe i need to be clearer......i want to leave further distance in the future.  the above is what i have done in the past, not what i plan for the future.

it is difficult to mandate a wellness program as it can include different levels of success.  you may just end up spending more to roll out and police the program than the actual benefit.

it is difficult to come up with the right balance of accountability and not cross the line of "free hand out".

i fall on both sides of the equation and it really is conflicting.  unfortunately, i don't have a good solution.

congrats on the medical/health field.  it has a strong future.

I think you may be overthinking it.  It probably doesn't bother others that you have right, left, or no feet down.  As long as you don't run into anyone, and stay in control........at speed or at stops, it is your biz.

But if you want to dissect this, let's go for it.  Not only is it a good procedure to be consistent and have a routine of alway left, it also benefits most people to control their front brake when the bars are at that angle vs the bars angling downward.  better angle and better control during mishaps.  same applies to rear brake if used.
