Those are good spots for sure.
I am looking for more in the "7 county" metro area.

It seems as though Maple Grove MAY have some fun spots, but I am just not familiar with that area.

I've been leading DS rides for a couple of years in the North metro... and I've been wondering; where are the best DIRT roads in metro area?

Carlos Avery does offer some good dirty fun, but I'd like to know where others may have found some good spots to exercise the suspension of a good dirt bike.

These guys are local and they make a fine product.  I've been told that their warranty policies are fantastic; replace without question.  But I wouldn't know... mine has been rock solid.

I love Christmas.  So it doesn't really hit me until the first week of January.  But then the IMS (International Motorcycle Show) happens and the waiting isn't so bad.  Once mid February rolls in, I start on my motorcycle projects and wrench on the bikes until the weather warms.

This routine has worked well for me over the years.  Ones of these days I'll start an ice bike project, and that will be my solution.

For Sale/Wanted to Buy / FREE Boots to a New Rider -- CLAIMED

Joe Rocket Meteor Boots in black.
Not too sure of the exact size but I wear an 11.5 or 12 usually.

To be honest, these are not too great for protective qualities, but they're better then tennis shoes.

Good shape; usual wear/tear.  Just trying to help out an under-geared rider out there.

CLAIMED

I could share what I think makes a good rider:

Leave your inadequacy issues at home
If you have daddy-didn't-hug-me-enough (or too much) issues, seek therapy from a counselor, not a motorcycle.

Ride with muted confidence.
Be assertive, not aggressive

Ride with SMART gear
Be critical of ALL gear.  Study, research and experiment with fit/wear/ protective elements.  Just because it costs the most doesn't mean it's the best.

Understand and ACCEPT all of your vulnerabilities
Be introspective and critical of yourself.  Rectify what you can, and come to terms with what you can't.  Adjust your situation accordingly.

That's my short list.

That's a big question, Mike!
Could I clarify a bit?

Would you consider the goal of a good rider to:

  • Not to ever crash; even if it means to ride slower than usual
  • Be as fast as possible w/o crashing
  • Keep yourself out of the hospital

General Banter / Re: My BIG Motorcycle Crash!!!

I have notice as I have gotten older I have gotten a little slower. I think this is because my ego is getting low. I know this for a fact because the last time I bought a new helmet I went from a large to a medium. Is there a pill or some drug I can take to get my ego level back up where it should be. I want to be really fast again.
Does Viagra for for this.

 ;D

I like to think egotistical behavior is replaced with wisdom as we age.
And from the stories you tell me about you and Mike on sleds... you both are pretty good at ignoring wisdom.  LOL

I think we are all more or less in agreement; what is being discussed is how all of us need to face facts.

Through the ageing process, we are all experiencing differences in things like reaction time and stamina… but our immense egos (many of us) are probably having trouble coming to terms with it.  It’s very easy for us to dismiss our impairments when we desperately want to get out and ride.  Bill’s story is a warning that it can happen to ANYONE.

And denial is a stinky cologne.

Glad your okay, Bill.   :)

There are so many components to riding safely, aren't there?
Thank you for being bold and sharing your story.  Your willingness to expose your vulnerability and admit your error in judgement as a safety reminder to the motorcycle online community is admirable.

Even the pros mess up and tumble from time to time, don't they?
And on a long enough timeline, the best of the best will crash.

Alot of folks out there may learn to consider personal health and wellness part of the gear checklist.
