^ It seems like people still don't commute much on their bikes but I think leisure/sport riding has grown immensely in the last ten years.

Even on nice summer days I only see a few motorcycles on my evening commute through the cities on 35W.

Commuting has become downright dangerous in this age of smartphones.

On a warm day I see dozens on motorcycles on my commute.  And I only travel 8 miles to work.

There are plenty of people commuting on motorcycles where I am.

Agreed. Even if I had a job I would be afraid to commute much in the Twin Cities metro area. Been rear ended by a car once and that was enough for me.

Armed felon rams Harley head-on into State Patrol cruiser, is thrown to his death

Article by: PAUL WALSH , Star Tribune
    Updated: March 25, 2013 - 9:41 AM

A violent and armed felon sped his Harley head-on into a parked State Patrol cruiser on a southwestern Minnesota highway and was thrown to his death, authorities said Monday.

The crash on Cottonwood County Rd. 10, about 25 miles northwest of Windom, killed Chad R. Danneman, 33, of Slayton, Minn., according to the State Patrol. Trooper Jeffery J. Stearns, of Marshall, Minn., escaped Saturday evening with minor injuries.

According to the patrol:

Danneman, armed with a knife, had eluded separate pursuits by deputies from the Cottonwood and Murray County sheriff’s offices. Soon after, Trooper Stearns was heading east on County Rd. 10 near County Rd. 5 and spotted Danneman on his motorcycle ahead of him.

Stearns came to a stop and activated his emergency lights. Danneman raced toward the squad car and struck it head-on. Danneman flew off his motorcycle and was dead at the scene.

Danneman’s criminal history in Minnesota includes two drunken-driving convictions, and convictions for felony drug possession, terroristic threats, and mistreatment of animals.

In 2010, Danneman was chased down at high speeds and arrested in Montana after an incident at a gas station. A day earlier, he failed to appear in Cottonwood County District Court on suspicion of using wire to tie his Doberman’s mouth shut and allowing the dog to freeze to death.

Where is that? I'll haul a camera up/down that way and finally get some motorcycle shots.

I found this in the Tribune on the motorcyclist killed in Brooklyn Center.  Sounds like he made a poor decision to try running from the law.

A speeding motorcyclist, who at one point reached 130 miles per hour, crashed with the patrol in pursuit Sunday evening. The rider went from I-94 in Minneapolis to westbound I-694, then north on Brooklyn Boulevard. The motorcycle went through at least two red lights and hit a car near Welcome Avenue.

The motorcyclist, Tyron A. Somaiah, 23, of Crystal, was dead at the scene. The car’s driver was not critically hurt.

Your post has confusing wording about Ty's crash. He crashed into a suv while getting chased. He didn't crash into the patrol car.

He was a very active ZG guy and a common face at the bike night. Hope ill see you again some day buddy

"you thought you had it bad, try staring at his butt crack the last 50 miles"

Offline Deplorable, thank you!

NO confusion when I read it
He ran from the law over a speeding ticket. (perhaps he didn't have a license or insurance or perhaps warrants, who knows why he didn't simply stop and take his lumps like a man, who cares....just stop...stupid)

He crashed into a vehicle(s) that had the right of way while he was running a red light injuring one person.

I have no compassion or sympathy for stupidity, one less idiot on the roads.

It is too bad he died, but he made his choices and now killed himself and injured another over HIS choices. Not to mention more bad stigma for sportbikes and all motorcycles from yet another idiot fleeing the police over something so stupid and crashing into another vehicle.
I think he hung around the leader of that club too long and watched what he got away with, 9 driving offenses in 2 years and several no insurance, no license and bragged about not stopping for police..Example recieved by too many there and thought to be okay, even idolized by many.
They all needed a wake up call, or twenty....maybe this is a start to that.

How about;
you don't have a license, you don't drive...
No insurance, park it.
Drunk or under the influence again don't drive.
No skills and no brains, walk or get a ride from someone who has those.
Police pulling you over, simply stop-go to court pay the fine, live to ride another day...seems pretty damn simple to me!

Don't be a douchebag idiot and don't die from stupidity.
What you just read is based on my experience and the info I have acquired during my life. Yes, I post long responses regularly because I like to fully explain my views. If you don't like it or agree with what I have to say; ignore it. I HATE LIARS ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO PRETEND TO BE YOUR FRIEND!
