The crash, which marks the 12th fatality of 2012, is under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

12th fatality related to motorcycles? for the whole state?

I think it's just St. Croix County.  I believe they have a disproportionate amount of riders in that county due to the bigger towns (Stillwater, Hudson) in proximity.

PK- I know you probably already answered this but where do you find these reports? There was a bike accident today down on twisty 60 that I was searching for but couldn't find any info. Black sportbike hauled away in pieces, I was wondering what happened to the rider.

See linky:   https://app.dps.mn.gov/mspmedia/CurrentSearch.asp

Keep in mind this is strictly for accidents the State Patrol was tasked with filing the report.  As of this morning, there is no filing for any incident on Hwy 60.  This suggests to me that only county or local authorities were involved.  In this case, it then becomes a hit or miss whether any local media will pick up on it.  I know about fatal M/C accidents that had absolutely no coverage whatsoever.  Likewise, I've seen relatively minor crashes down at the far corners of the state get splattered all over media up and down the Mississippi valley and in the metro newspapers.

This is why you need to take a deep breath when a motorist upsets you.  The riders might very well have been innocent but speeding up to kick the door of an angry motorist is not the brightest move.

Driver charged with shooting motorcyclist in face outside Isanti Police HQ

Article by: PAUL WALSH and KELLY SMITH , Star Tribune staff writers
    Updated: October 2, 2012 - 2:50 PM

A 71-year-old man was charged Tuesday with confronting two motorcyclists in the Isanti Police Department parking lot and shooting one of them in the chin in what authorities described as the bloody culmination of a cat-and-mouse road rage incident on Hwy. 65.

Joseph D. Kadlec, 71, of Cambridge, Minn., was charged with three felonies: first-degree assault, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree attempted manslaughter. Kadlec has been jailed since the shooting Saturday afternoon and was scheduled to appear in court later Tuesday.

Kadlec has a permit to carry a gun, according to the Isanti County Sheriff's Office. He also has been involved in five other road rage incidents in the past four years, according to the criminal complaint in this case.

The shooting victim, Kyle W. Ronning, 29, of Columbia Heights, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. He was in satisfactory condition.

A fellow motorcyclist and roommate, Matthew D. Larowe, 30, was at the scene but unharmed.

The bullet entered "directly into [Ronning's] chin just below his bottom lip," according to the complaint, filed in Isanti County District Court, read. The bullet broke several of Ronning's teeth, the complaint added, and was "protruding from the lower portion of his right ear."

In a brief telephone interview Tuesday, Larowe said he and Ronning were "out enjoying the weather" on their motorcycles and it was Kadlec who "was definitely out of line."

"Sweet," was Larowe's response, when hearing that Kadlec had been charged.

Other incidents involving defendant

In the earlier incidents, Kadlec was never charged or ticketed but was "certainly party to all five cases," said Isanti County Attorney Jeff Edblad.

In one case, Edblad said, Kadlec was involved in a motorcycle-car crash and officers called to the scene reported both drivers yelling obscenities at them. "I've work with the best; you sure as [expletive] aren't one of them," Kadlec reportedly told officers.

In a March 2009 incident involving Kadlec, one vehicle was trying to pass another and the two later collided in what was alleged as intentional ramming, Edblad added.

While Saturday's incident remains under investigation, Edblad said he doesn't expect the two motorcyclists to be charged.

The latest incident is part of a growing number of road rage cases in his county in recent years, he said, although it's rare for it to end in such violence.

"Unfortunately, we do see road rage incidents that have been occurring more and more frequently over the years, but we never see something of this level," Edblad said. "We all see it out there [on roadways] every day - the lack of civility and courtesy."

According to the complaint against Kadlec:

Witnesses driving along Hwy. 65 told police that they saw Kadlec's car, his wife with him, and Ronning and Larowe speed by. The car swerved toward Ronning and Larowe, prompting the two men to speed up to Kadlec, and one of the motorcyclists then kicked Kadlec's car.

The motorcyclists attempted to pass the car "again and again." In response, Kadlec "jerked his car at the motorcycles."

At one point, one of the motorcyclists "gave [Kadlec] the finger," prompting Kadlec to swerve toward his rivals again.

From there, the motorcyclists ended up in the Police Department parking lot. Two officers leaving the headquarters heard a gunshot. One of them led the wounded man away from the car scene while the other yelled at Kadlec.

Kadlec told police about the confrontation on Hwy. 65 and said something about kicking.

Crash closes Hwy. 63, south of Hwy. 10
At least two patients were transported -- one by medical helicopter -- from the scene of a motorcycle versus car accident late Wednesday afternoon on Hwy. 63 near County Road K.

At least two patients were transported -- one by medical helicopter -- from the scene of a motorcycle versus car accident late Wednesday afternoon on Hwy. 63 near County Road K.

Pierce County authorities were alerted to the crash about 4:30 p.m. Because one of the motorcycle occupants is believed to have severed a limb, the helicopter was requested before EMS personnel had reached the scene.

Ellsworth Area Ambulance soon requested a second helicopter and a third ambulance from Prescott. Ellsworth Fire was also assisting sheriff's deputies at the scene.

According to preliminary investigation, the car, a Kia, was southbound and the motorcycle northbound when the collision occurred. Sheriff's deputies also said three were injured.

The crash was said to be just north of Ben Dilly's, 4306 Hwy. 63.

More details will be posted when they become available.

My local ramp.  A decreasing radius to the right as you come off 494.  The ALCOHOL DETECTED probably didn't help his perception or response.

At the same interchange, on the ramp from Tamarack to NB 494 - a gentle bend, but pretty much a straight shot - a large white SUV managed to go off the right side and into a drainage pond about 15-feet below the shoulder the other morning.  Rough way to start the day.

Rushford man pleads no contest in drunken motorcycle crash

14 hours ago  •  By Chris Hubbuch | chubbuch@lacrossetribune.com

A Rushford, Minn., man was convicted Thursday of two felony drunken driving charges in connection with motorcycle crash that left a 16-year-old passenger with a brain injury.

David Carlson, 52, pleaded no contest to second or more offense operating while intoxicated causing injury and fifth offense OWI as part of an agreement with the state.

He faces up to three years in prison on each charge, though prosecutors agreed to ask that any sentences he receive run concurrently.

In July, the girl had gone to Catfish Days in Trempealeau with a neighbor and later to the Jail House tavern, where she met Carlson, who agreed to give her a motorcycle ride, according to a criminal complaint. Carlson was following another bike when he lost control on a curve and crashed into a cornfield off Hwy. D northeast of Holmen.

Carlson’s blood-alcohol level was 0.173 percent, nearly three times the legal limit, said Assistant District Attorney Amesia Xiong.

The girl suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as a gash on her thigh. Her parents said Thursday she still can attend only a half day of school.

Carlson, who entered the courtroom with a walker, said he had no memory of the crash.

“I have a severe head injury,” he told Judge Todd Bjerke.

Carlson has four OWI convictions since 1993, according to court records, though the complaint lists six previous drunken driving offenses. Court records indicate he was sentenced in 1999 to 10 years probation for a felony OWI in Texas and had his probation revoked in 2007.

Carlson is scheduled to return to court for sentencing Nov. 12.

Sorry for the tangent ...

But what the hell is a 16 year old girl doing in a place where she can get a ride from a drunk 52 year old? Mr. Carlson has a history of bad decisions, but it still makes me wonder why he would even risk putting himself near the trouble of a hauling a young girl on the back of his bike. He was begging for trouble, aware or not.

My secret to a happy marriage? Get in enough trouble to be sent to the garage.
