This one did not involve a motorcycle.  However it's potentially an important lesson as it appears the semi trailer went over the centerline of Hwy 76 near Houston at mile marker 16.  My mapping program shows MM16 is in that really twisty section.  It's not hard to imagine the trucker did not use the shoulders to keep the trailer within his lane.  A reminder to always be vigilant for this situation on a motorcycle.

UPDATE: One flown to Regions following crash involving 3 motorcycles

A Cottage Grove, Minn., man was in fair condition Monday, 16 hours after he was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries after two motorcycles collided late Sunday afternoon on Hwy. 35, south of CTH E in the town of Diamond Bluff.

Dennis J. Monn, 52, was transported by helicopter while another victim, James D. Sershen, 21, of Northfield, Minn., was transported by Prescott Area Ambulance to Regions with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

A hospital spokeswoman said Sershen was in good condition Monday morning. The nature of his injuries wasn't disclosed.

A third man, William E. King, 46, of St. Paul, drove his motorcycle into the ditch to avoid colliding with the other two. He was not injured.

Pierce County sheriff's deputy Craig Theis said in a news release that 4:08 p.m. crash occurred after Serchen had attempted a U-turn with his Honda motorcycle when Monn's Harley Davidson machine collided with him.

Prescott firefighters and a paramedic from the River Falls Area Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.

I was down at the Hiawatha Rally when that happened.  Some folks had trouble getting to the rally because the police had Hwy 76 completely shut down.

Another Cty O casualty.

Minnesota man injured in motorcycle accident

A Minnesota man was taken to an area hospital Sunday night when he was ejected from the motorcycle he was riding.

Kyle Jordan, 22, Andover, was northbound on County Highway O at 480th Ave. in the town of Trimbelle, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The motorcycle overturned and skidded across the roadway, ejecting him. The accident happened at 5:25 p.m., according ot the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Jordan was transported to River Falls Area Hospital by Ellsworth Area Ambulance. Deputy Jean Spletstoser noted alcohol was not a factor and Jordan was wearing a helmet and full protective gear.

That super twisty stretch with blind corners on Hwy 76 is a blast but does make me nervous.  Now that it has been resurfaced it is very smooth. There just isn't room for tractor trailers to negotiate it without crossing the center line. There  just isn't much of a shoulder on the east side.

I was chasing Vince on the Dragon a few years back and we had to come to a complete stop to allow a big rig to negotiated a corner as it came at us. We are lucky Vince saw it in time.

Encountering a big rig in a blind corner has always been one of my nightmares.

Perplexing.  You can't find a more wide open intersection in the whole county and yet, the car driver violated their right of way.

http://www.republican-eagle.com/content/two-killed-motorcycle-crash

Two killed in motorcycle crash

Two people from Apple Valley, Minn., were killed Wednesday afternoon when the motorcycle they were riding on was struck by a car, Goodhue County Sheriff's Office reported.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of County roads 9 and 1 in Leon Township at about 2:30 p.m. Michael Forte, 57, was driving the cycle westbound on County Road 9. Kevin Kohn, 46, Kenyon was northbound on County Road 1 and had stopped at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection without seeing the motorcycle. Forte and his passenger Jilleen Comstock, 43, were ejected from the motorcycle.

The empty motorcycle and Kohn's passenger car then struck a dump truck driven by Allen Hernke, 76, rural Cannon Falls that had been stopped at the intersection. Kohn and Hernke were not injured. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Wanamingo First Responders, Cannon Falls Ambulance and North Air assisted at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol will be doing an accident reconstruction.
