Injured Lakeville motorcyclist dies
Updated: August 12, 2013 - 12:13 AM
A Lakeville man who was critically injured Saturday after rolling his motorcycle just before noon on Hwy. 50 in Lakeville has died, according to a funeral notice placed by the White Funeral Home.
Dustin Rahier, 38, was eastbound, “popping wheelies,” when traffic in front of him slowed down at the intersection of Holt Avenue, according to the State Patrol.
The slowed traffic caused Rahier to brake hard, and he rolled onto the right side of the motorcycle, according to the State Patrol. He was not wearing a helmet.
First responders reported that Rahier was dead but quickly realized that he was alive, said Lt. Eric Roeske, a spokesman for the State Patrol. Rahier was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A Regions spokesman declined to confirm the death Sunday night.

Blooming Prairie man injured in motorcycle crash

GRAND RAPIDS — A Blooming Prairie man suffered serious injuries Sunday when his motorcycle crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming pickup while traveling in northern Minnesota, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Thomas E. Kremer, 50, was traveling southbound on Minnesota Highway 38 when he drifted into the northbound line to collide with a vehicle driven by Dean A. Kemmer, 46, of Deer River, Minn., the patrol said. The incident occurred at 12:31 p.m. near Johnson Lake.
Kemmer swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision, according to the patrol, and then overcorrected. The pickup ended up rolling into the ditch, though Kemmer emerged uninjured.
Kremer, who was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson and was not wearing a helmet, was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth for medical treatment. Officials at the hospital declined to release a condition update Monday morning, citing Kremer's request for privacy.
The Itasca County Sheriff's Office assisted on the scene.

The driver of the truck, Dean Kemmer, 46, of Deer River, was reportedly not injured. Both vehicles were deemed total losses, and no alcohol was detected in either driver, the report added.

UPDATE: Lakeville man dies after being injured during Outlaw Run
A Lakeville man injured at the first stop of the Northfield Historical Outlaw Run on Saturday has died.
Dustin Rahier was seriously injured when he was "popping wheelies" in New Trier, according to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report. The traffic in front of him slowed, causing the motorcycle to roll, according to the report.
The 38-year-old died the same day, according to the obituary from White Funeral Homes.
According to Hayes Scriven, Northfield Historical Society executive director, two local EMTs were on staff during the event and helped the Lakeville resident in the accident, until local public safety personnel responded. Rahier was then transported to the hospital via helicopter.
"It was a horrible thing that happened," Scriven said. "[Our] thoughts and prayers are with the family."
Scriven said that the future of the event is uncertain. The event committee and historical society's board of directors would discuss it in the next week, he said.
"I don’t expect a decision to be made right way," Scriven said. "We’re evaluating and trying to figure out what our next steps are going to be."
The event
The sounds of motorcycles rumbled through downtown Northfield on Saturday as bikers started the Northfield Historical Society Outlaw Run early and then returned in the afternoon to celebrate.
With 229 registered bikers and at least another dozen more who didn't sign up, it was the most participants that have ever taken the trip, according to Scriven.
The day started with a reenactment of the attempted robbery by the James-Younger Gang of the First National Bank of Northfield. Then, riders set out to ride the route the Gang took to explore southern Minnesota prior to the robbery.

Wonewoc man dies in motorcycle crash
A Wonewoc man died late Saturday night or early Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash near the village.
Sheriff Brent Oleson said today that James Lierman, 46, was apparently the driver of a motorcycle that crashed on Hwy. FF.
Lierman and the motorcycle were found in a roadside ditch Sunday afternoon after a tip from the relative of a man who was a passenger on the motorcycle, Wesley Dehler, 22, of Wonewoc.
Oleson said that at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dehler’s brother notified authorities that Dehler had been discovered with injuries inside a vacant home along the highway by a man taking care of the property.
Dehler did not remember how he was injured, but his brother told authorities that he knew that Dehler and Lierman left Wonewoc on the motorcycle at about 11 p.m. Saturday.
The report sparked a search that led to the discovery of Lierman’s body and the motorcycle at the southeast edge of the village, Oleson said.
Lierman was pronounced dead at the scene by a Juneau County coroner, Oleson said.
Coroner Kathleen Kohutko said Thursday that Lierman died of blunt force trauma to the chest. He was not wearing a helmet, Kohutko said.
Kohutko said she awaited results of toxicology tests but alcohol and speed were likely contributing factors in the crash.
Oleson said that Dehler had so far not recalled anything about the crash and that he did not know how badly Dehler had been injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, Oleson said.
